Xingo's Back is the sixty-third episode of Ben 10.

Synopsis

Left to entertain himself as Max takes a much deserved nap, Ben stumbles upon a Xingo arcade game and goes Shock Rock to power it up, but when it receives too much juice, Xingo leaps out into the real world and our hero must go toe-to-toe with his favorite cartoon character.

Plot

Left to entertain himself as Max takes a much deserved nap, Ben and Gwen stumble upon a Xingo arcade game while exploring a mall. Against Gwen's advice, Ben transforms into Shock Rock to power it up, and briefly try out the game until they realized Shock Rock gave it too much juice and, yet again, brings Xingo to life, who proceeds to battle the Fulmini before being blasted out the mall.

Xingo soon recovers and drags Shock Rock into his game, where the latter battled the former through a cliff-themed platforming level and a well-themed swimming level before timing out. While watching Ben's struggles, Gwen accidentally causes him to move, thus helping him escape Xingo through the rest of the underwater level, a cliff based level and a horizontal rail shooter themed level.

Ben is eventually sent into a rooftop level, where his Omnitrix finally recharges and turns into Omni-Enhanced Grey Matter, who is able to read the binary code and gets Gwen to (unsuccsefully) input cheat codes before getting an extra life, which is able to revive him after he gets beat up by Xingo and a coffee-like enemy. Omni-Enhanced Grey Matter then destroys one of Xingo's robots, and is eventually overwhelmed by a super-sized Xingo before the latter is zapped out of a wormhole and Omni-Enhanced Grey Matter is sucked out before he reverts. Ben and Gwen then decide to go see nearby rock formations while hoping to never see Xingo again.

Allusions

• This episode includes many references to classic video games.
  • Xingo's attack rolling down the hill is a reference to Sonic The Hedgehog, more specifically his spin dash. The saucer-like metal vehicles inside the game also resemble the machines made by Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Eggman throughout the franchise.
  • Xingo powering up using an anvil found in a box is a direct reference to the Super Mushrooms from the Mario franchise. A box similar to the iconic ? Blocks are also seen near the beginning. Lastly, Xingo's last resort strategy of becoming giant is similar to Bowser having a tendency to do so.
  • When the game begin, he is chased by ghosts reminiscent of those from Pac-Man.
  • There is a swimming level nearly identical to the one in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
  • The death sound is reused from the first and third Castlevania games, also on the NES.
  • The space level is reminiscent of a side-scrolling shooter such as Gradius.
  • Though likely meant as a cartoonish effect, Ben spinning while using a sword may reference the Spin Attack from The Legend of Zelda series. The fact that he acquired the sword from a fallen enemy may be either a reference to Kirby (who can acquire some abilities from Minor Bosses after defeating them) or Mega Man (who receives abilities in a similar manner from the Bosses of his game, dubbed Robot Masters).
  • Grey Matter's describing inputs reference the fighting game genre (games such as Street Fighter or Tekken) and alludes to cheat codes. Gwen struggling to execute the former may reference how difficult and precise they may be.
