Wildmutt is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Vulpimancer[7][8][9] from the planet Vulpin.[Bandai 1]
Appearance[]
Ben as Wildmutt[]
Wildmutt appears to be a large orange dog-like creature with no eyes, ears, nose, or tail. He stands on all fours and his movements are somewhat apelike. His teeth are very defined and his bottom jaw sticks out of his mouth. The various spines found all across his body function similarly to whiskers with tactile sensing, and are not fur.[DJ 1] Since Wildmutt has no eyes, he uses his sense of smell and hearing to navigate, which are aided by three gill-like nostrils located on each side of his neck.
In the Original Series, Wildmutt wore a black-and-white brace with the original Omnitrix symbol on his left shoulder.
While under the effects of a cold in Side Effects, Wildmutt's fur discolors from its vivid orange to a pale yellowish-orange tone, and his lips and claws turn from black to a sickly dark green hue.
In Back With a Vengeance, Wildmutt wore a yellow raincoat.
In Merry Christmas, Wildmutt briefly wore fake antlers while disguised as a reindeer.
In Don't Drink the Water, 4-year-old Wildmutt, nicknamed Wildpup, looked very similar to his 10-year-old self, but a lot smaller and thinner nails instead of claws.
In Destroy All Aliens, Wildmutt's skin was lighter and his fur was more defined.
In Race Against Time, Wildmutt looks the same, except his skin is darker.
In Ultimate Alien, 16-year-old Wildmutt looks mostly the same except his skin is lighter in color. While his lips were still black in the Ultimate Alien intro, they were in the same color as his fur in the actual series. He wore the Ultimatrix symbol on his chest. Kevin as Wildmutt shares these traits.
In The Forge of Creation, 10-year-old Wildmutt looked mostly the same as in the Original Series, except his lips were in the same color has his skin, his shoulder brace did not have any white on it, and the original Omnitrix symbol was recolored green.
In Heroes United, 16-year-old Wildmutt looked exactly the same as in the Original Series but his skin was a darkish orange.
In Omniverse, Wildmutt's lips have returned to being black and his forearms are a bit bigger. 16-year-old Wildmutt wears a green and white collar with the Omnitrix symbol.
11-year-old Wildmutt looks closer to his appearance in the Original Series than 10-year-old Wildmutt in Ultimate Alien, with the white returning to the shoulder brace, though the Omnitrix symbol is still colored green.
Ben 10,000 as Wildmutt[]
Ben 10,000's Wildmutt was larger than his 10-year-old self, had brown stripes on his back instead of quills, his appearance had shifted to a more feline form due to the presence of a tail. Wildmutt wore the Omnitrix symbol on his forehead.
Powers and Abilities[]
“ | Good thinking. The Vulpin's keen senses should be able to sniff out the intruder. | ” |
More animal than humanoid, Wildmutt is a beastly alien with superhuman athletic ability[10] and heightened senses of smell, hearing and taste.[CN 1] As a trade-off to not having proper vision, Wildmutt's amazing sense of smell makes up a dull 360 "radar" that he uses to "see",[pop-up 1] making it nearly impossible for opponents to sneak up on him.[10]
Wildmutt's enhanced sense of smell allows him to easily track down people or objects from their scent.[11][5][12][13] With it, Kevin 11 was able to track down Ben in the Null Void.[pop-up 2][14] His sense of smell also renders any kind of visual deception useless, as he can effortlessly identify and track entities that are invisible[15] or wearing a disguise.[16]
Wildmutt possesses sharp teeth and a strong bite force, being able to rip wires and pieces out of Vilgax's Mechadroids;[10] harm a Limax[1] and Animo's Mutant Prairie Dog;[17] rip out a piece of the Rustbucket 3;[18] and rip off wires ensnaring two Plumbers.[19]
Wildmutt possesses sharp claws, being able to effortlessly slash through Cooper's security drones;[17] keep himself attached to a wall within the Resolute while the airlock was open;[5] and quickly dig through stone.[13] Additionally, Wildmutt's claws help him scale surfaces.[14]
Wildmutt has enhanced strength, being able throw a dumpster at a group of Limax and tackle one of them into a wall;[1] and tear off the roof of a car and fight off the Circus Freak Trio;[2] carry a Florauna on his back while running without difficulty;[20] hold his own against a Buglizard;[21] and pin down a Merlinisapien.[15]
Wildmutt has enhanced durability, being able to jump through a window;[15] take punches from a Limax;[1] and survive a steel tower falling on top of him.[2] Wildmutt is also very quick and agile,[20] being able to run faster than a cheetah.[DR 1] Additionally, he also has enhanced reflexes, being able to quickly dodge a sword slash from Eon[22] and trip a Kineceleran running at him.[23]
Wildmutt can survive in hazardous, sub-zero temperature environments, such as those on Vulpin.[Bandai 2][VA 1] This allows Wildmutt to break through ice easily if frozen solid, as demonstrated by other Vulpimancers in the Null Void.[24]
Wildmutt is a quadruped. However, he is capable of standing on his hind legs.[22] In addition, his front feet are prehensile, as he is able to use them to reach out and grab objects much like a hand.
Wildmutt can fire the quills from his back as projectiles. However, he can only do this when he reaches adulthood.[pop-up 3][25]
Weaknesses[]
When Ben becomes Wildmutt, he has no way of communicating verbally as he can only growl and snarl. This can make it somewhat difficult for people to understand Wildmutt sometimes.[CN 2][TT 1]
Wildmutt's higher hearing range can be taken advantage of, as high frequency noises like a Sonic Pitch Whistle[9] or a Zaroffian's whistle[21] can overwhelm his senses and stun him. Wildmutt is also sensitive to strong smells.[ab 1][ab 2]
Wildmutt is implied to be vulnerable to fire, as shown with some other Vulpimancers when they were repelled by Swampfire's flames.[24]
When infected with a cold, Wildmutt's nostrils (on the sides of his neck) get blocked by mucus, making him unable to smell, rendering him essentially "blind".[26]

Trivia[]
- Counting TV footage, Wildmutt is the first alien to appear in Ultimate Alien.
- Wildmutt is Ben's only alien that is incapable of verbal speech, due to lacking the vocal anatomy to do so.[DJW 1] However, the Ultimatrix appears to fix this problem with Ultimate Wildmutt. Interestingly, when Kevin was turned into Wildmutt in Ultimate Alien, he was able to growl out a sentence.
- Wildmutt is the only alien featured in Race Against Time to have his voice actor reprise his role from the Original Series.
- Wildmutt was originally planned to be one of the playable aliens in the Game Creator, but was soon removed from the game when Alien Force aired.
- Wildmutt's name in the Croatian version of the cartoon, "Psina," means "Great Dog," but the same word is sometimes used to name several sharks, especially the Great white shark, which sometimes caused naming confusions between him and Ripjaws.
- Wildmutt's toys did not sell well.[STS 1]
- Wildmutt served as a replacement for Digger, an orange humanoid hero with digging abilities, when the crew decided to switch from superheroes to aliens. Dave Johnson designed him but noted that, like Ripjaws and XLR8, it was hard for animators to draw him.[DJ 2]
- Had he appeared on-screen, Mad Ben's Wildmutt would have some kind of harness and collar with spikes.[DJW 2]
- Had Wildmutt been featured in the reboot, he would have been more humanoid. The crew did not want him looking anything but a dog,[DR 2] so he was not included in the show, even though Duncan Rouleau likes him.[DR 3]
- Because of how he does not see in the conventional sense, it's possible that Wildmutt cannot be scared by Toepick's species.[DJW 3]
