Vin Diagram is the one hundred and twenty-sixth episode of Ben 10.
Synopsis[]
When Ben sees Vin Ethanol impressed with Kevin's automotive know-how, Ben's jealousy has him convinced that he has to out-do Kevin before the older boy influences Vin to embrace his bad-guy side at a charity race.
Plot[]
The episode opens on Gwen dramatically donning racing gear. She expresses her long-held desire to do that, and Max relates by mentioning how he always wanted to manage a pit-stop. Ben, meanwhile, talks about how much he wants to see cars spin out a crash into a wall. Gwen reminds him that they are not at a demolition derby, but rather a charity race for an endangered animal sanctuary. Despite this Ben fails to see the point she is making. He then looks around and spots Kevin hanging around. Ben and Gwen recall having just seen him yesterday in Bolivia. Kevin then dials in Quad Smack and grabs some tires off of a stack, making Ben suspicious. Quad Smack grabs more tires, only to find Ben standing behind the stack. Ben interrogates him, asking if he's going to mess with the endangered animals, but Kevin responds by calling him a paranoid baby. Ben doesn't believe him, and transforms into Four Arms. The two start fighting, and Kevin gains the upper hand. They then simultaneously time out, and Vin Ethanol picks the two up by their collars.
Vin tells Kevin he can play with Ben later, once they finish tuning up his car. Ben questions how the two know each other, and a flashback is shown of Vin confronting Kevin in a parking lot, having tried to steal his car's engine. He questions Kevin, who sheepishly admits to trying to steal it. Vin respected Kevin's honesty, and took him under his wing. He informs Team Tennyson that Kevin has good know-how about cars, and he doesn't want to waste his talent. They fist bump, which blows Ben's mind. They then leave to work on the car. Gwen asks the stunned Ben if he's okay. Ben explains that he thought Vin wanted to become a hero, and Kevin's influence is just going to make him a bad guy again. Conversely, Ben believes he should be taken under Vin's wing, so he will become a good guy (and so Ben can drive his car). Max shows concern for Ben idolizing a criminal like Vin, but Gwen thinks the team should give the two a chance to work together, believing they may be good influences on each other. She consults Ben on the idea, only to notice he's gone.
Elsewhere on the racetrack, Ben confronts Kevin and Vin. Kevin tells Ben to go back to his "goody-good family", and Vin scolds him for bringing up someone's family. Ben accuses Kevin of not having a car to race with, but Kevin transforms into Bootleg, who then fuses with and upgrades Vin's car, impressing the latter. Ben brings up that he also had a Galvanic Mechamorph transformation, and Vin tells him that he would have kept it. They then hear an announcement telling them to get to the starting line, so Vin and Bootleg leave. Ben angrily chases after Bootleg, saying it's on.
At the starting line, Gwen prepares to race with Glitch. Ben then boots Gwen out of Glitch, taking her seat, much to her surprise. Frustrated, Gwen asks what she's supposed to do, and Ben sends to work with Max at the pit stop, disappointing her. She dons a headset as Mary Jo Fourfeathers marks the start of the race. Over her headset, Glitch reminds Gwen he would be driving regardless. Ben chimes in, asking Gwen to keep him updated on Vin's location. She notes he is way behind in the race, which Ben attributes to Glitch driving too politely. Glitch says he doesn't have a "killer instinct", but Ben insists he has an alien who does. Ben then dials in Heatblast, who by touching Glitch, transforms him with Pyronite DNA too. Now with fire coming out of his exhaust pipes, Glitch speeds ahead. Meanwhile, Vin reminds Bootleg to not text and drive. In turn, Bootleg reminds him that, being the car, he can't text in the first place. Vin then notices Heatblast and Glitch in his side mirror. Glitch drives next to Bootleg, and Heatblast takes the opportunity to gloat about his ride to Vin. Vin, however, is not impressed, as it is a charity race. Frustrated by the safety, Bootleg rams Glitch, sending him back. Vin angrily asks Bootleg what he's doing, and Bootleg says he's making things more interesting, as he summons missile launchers and wheel spikes. Vin demands to know what Bootleg had done to his car.
Behind them, Glitch recovers from the attack. Much to Heatblast's annoyance, several racers pass them. Bootleg then fires the missiles at Glitch, which they quickly drive away from. As more rain upon them, Heatblast destroys the missiles whilst they are in mid-air with his fire. Gwen reminds him that the other racers, as a result, are also in danger. Glitch speeds up and Heatblast similarly protects the other racers. Bootleg, meanwhile, laughs at the destruction he's causing. Vin chastises him, reminding him that he is only to shoot missiles at armored cars. Bootleg fires another missile, which Heatblast destroys before timing out. Bootleg attempts to once again ram Glitch, but Vin pulls the other way on the steering wheel, throwing a wrench in his plans. Vin states no one uses his car to cheat, and they spin out. Gwen tells Ben to pull into the pit stop.
At the pit stop, Gwen scolds Ben for both destroying the Vin and Kevin duo and contributing to the near-destruction of the race track. Ben apologizes to Gwen for taking away her opportunity to race. Bootleg then drives by, calling Ben a loser. Ben responds by transforming into Rath and chasing after them. Gwen, meanwhile, rides in Glitch to catch up, and Max wishes her good luck.
Bounding between the roofs of cars, Rath attempts to catch up to Vin and Bootleg. However, he lands on the roof of an old-timey car, causing the driver's cat allergies to act up. They briefly spin out of control, causing Rath to fly off and land on the hood of Glitch, transforming him using Appoplexian DNA. Meanwhile, Vin and Bootleg continue to fight over control of the car. Bootleg sprouts a tentacle off his side, attaching to another car. He does so twice more, causing a jam. Rath jumps ahead as he did before, and disconnects the cars from Bootleg. Vin tells Kevin that once he times out, they will have a long talk about good sportsmanship. Suddenly, Rath jumps onto Bootleg's hood, and starts whaling on him. Vin reminds Rath that it is still his car he is attacking. Bootleg separates from the car, declaring he no longer cared about the race. He transforms into Bashmouth, announcing it now personal. The fall off of the car and land on the car-infested race track, who all drive around them. Bashmouth throws Rath onto the roof of a car, and leaps onto another one. He then tackles Rath, and uses his mouth to toss him over onto another car. Rath digs his claws into the windshield, terrifying the driver. Rath tears the roof off the car, and attempts to bludgeon Bashmouth with it. However, the latter takes a bite out of it with his metallic teeth, and they get in a tug-of-war, with both eventually falling off of the car. Various cars swerve around the two, including Gwen in Glitch.
Gwen notes to Max that they don't seem to be any closer to working anything out, and Max laments that they see Vin as a cooler role model compared to him. He asks Gwen if she thinks he is cool, and Gwen pretends to not have heard the question. Max, however, does not fall for her excuse. Glitch speeds up to Vin's car, with him now in control. She tells Vin she has a plan, and he listens, to her surprise. Vin tells her to not let boys make her feel like she isn't important, and asks her about her plan. Gwen suggests using some kind of bait as a way to draw Bashmouth and Rath off of the track. Vin suggests using a cut of steak he has in his car as bait, confusing Gwen as to why he has that in his car. He proposes using ribs instead, even further confusing her. Vin explains it's for in case he gets hungry. He tosses the steak over to Gwen.
Speeding up to Rath and Bashmouth, Gwen distracts the two with the steak. They follow her, until Bashmouth is distracted by a flying racoon tail decoration. He leaps onto the car with the decoration, derailing Gwen's plan. As he is gnawing on the tail, he times out, which grosses Kevin out. Gwen tells Rath he has to save Kevin, which he complies with after Gwen tells him he'll get the meat after he saves Kevin. Rath grabs Kevin off of the car and lands on Glitch. They all then drive up to Vin's car, who congratulates them.
They cross the finish line, and Rath times out, causing him and Kevin to fall to the ground. The two immediately begin bickering again, as Vin gets out of his car. Ben insists to Kevin that Vin isn't going to do crimes anymore. Vin immediately shoots down that notion, claiming that he needs to give his son something to do with his law degree. However, he also clarifies that is isn't going to cheat in fair races, either. Ben and Kevin question which of them get to mold them into their ideal role model, to which Vin laughs, as he wouldn't abandon his code for "a couple of 7-year-olds", offending both Ben and Kevin. Kevin leaves, although Vin lets him know he's willing to help him with his homework or installing nitro-boosters. Ben tells Vin he thought he was ready to be a good guy, to which Vin theorizes he is getting too hung up on what makes bad guys and good guys. Ultimately, he concludes sticking to one's code is more important, not hijacking, money laundering, or running illegal underground stunt races. Ben retorts by stating he believes those are bad guy things, and Vin points out how he is sticking to his code. Max walks onto the scene, and exposits that everyone has learned a lesson in not idolizing criminals. Vin compliments Max on his family, having raised money for endangered animals. Police cars then surround Vin, accusing him of hijacking, money laundering, and running illegal underground stunt races. Vin allows himself to be arrested, as Gwen notes she still thinks he is cool.
