    • I just mean to say that "he" is more or less the default pronoun in English. When people mean to speak of a person of unknown gender, they will usually say "he" or sometimes "they", even if it's no more logical or correct than "she" or "it". And it would sound weird to say "they" for Big Chill, because it would sound like there was more than one of him or something. Thus, for better or for worse, people use "he".
