Spellbinder was a powerful sorcerer from Legerdomain and the father of Charmcaster.
Appearance[]
He was a fit man with a silver goatee, and long silver hair reminiscent of his daughter. His outfit is also reminiscent of his daughters.
Personality[]
He loved his family and his people, to the point of sacrificing his life for them. He had a high moral compass in that despite missing his daughter, he refused to be brought back to life if it was at the cost of thousands of lives.
History[]
Background[]
Although little is known about Spellbinder's life, some key facts were revealed in the episode Where the Magic Happens. When Charmcaster was younger, Spellbinder fought against Addwaitya and sacrificed himself to allow Hex and Charmcaster to escape safely to Earth. He was apparently immensely powerful, as even his enemy Addwaitya commends the power his daughter inherited from him long after he is dead. It is clear that Addwaitya still retains a level of respect for Spellbinder, although not enough to have used his voice to lure his daughter into a trap later on. His sacrifice is still an emotional issue for Charmcaster, angering her when talking to Gwen about it and crying when hearing his voice for the first time in years.[1]
Ultimate Alien[]
Spellbinder appeared in Enemy of My Frenemy, when Charmcaster resurrected him through both the sacrifice of all 600,000 living souls in Legerdomain and bartering with the Old One. When he learned of Charmcaster's lengths to bring him back, he revealed that he died to save her, not from Addwaitya but from Legerdomain's corruptive influence, trying to give her a chance at a normal life. He was revolted to find out his life "was bought at the cost of so many others" and said he couldn't stay. He told his daughter he loved her and apologized for not being there for her when she needed him, before returning to the dead, prompting the Old One to return all 600,000 souls to life.[2] Charmcaster fell into a depression after this event, seeking to fill the void left in her life first with a boyfriend, and then through more power.[3] Despite these troubles, Charmcaster still cherishes her father's memory, proudly announcing herself as "daughter of Spellbinder" when she confronted Zs'Skayr.[4]
Powers and Abilities[]
Both Charmcaster and Hex spoke highly of his power. He was one of the few magical beings capable of opposing Addwaitya and even earning his respect.[2] The extent of his abilities is unknown.
