NRG (pronounced "Energy") is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Prypiatosian-B from the planet Prypiatos[merch 1] in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Appearance

Ben as NRG

NRG is a humanoid alien, a physical being constantly emitting pure, red, radioactive energy.[DM 1] He wears a heavy, dark green-teal oven-like containment suit, with three slits capable of letting out some of his radioactive energy.

In Omniverse, NRG's containment suit now has a handle on the head and the shoulders have bolts. There are three more bolts on each hand, and two on the chest.

Inside his suit, NRG wears a green and black lower level containment suit consisting of two straps, a belt, two wristbands on both arms, and two knee braces on both legs.[DJW 1] In addition, his eyes are now green with lightning like eyebrows.

While in his armor, NRG wears the Ultimatrix/Omnitrix symbol on its chest seal, and in his true form, the Omnitrix symbol is on his belt.

Albedo as Negative NRG

Negative NRG looks just like Ben's NRG in Ultimate Alien, but with no Ultimatrix symbol on either the chest seal of his containment suit or the chest of his true form, making him look more identical to P'andor.

Mad Ben as Mad NRG

Mad Ben's NRG wears a containment suit similar to Ben Prime's in Omniverse, but has orange spikes on the lower arms, shoulders, legs and hands. It has a grey plate on his grill and a spiked handle. The light coming out of the grill is orange, much like his Omnitrix symbol.

Powers and Abilities

NRG is capable of firing highly radioactive energy beams through the vent in his containment suit, which can corrode or melt metallic objects, and can also melt ice, such as the ice of a Necrofriggian.[2] The energy NRG radiates is hot enough to melt solid metal and rock through mere contact.[3] This energy can also be found in his saliva.[4]

NRG can channel his heat underground, which results in the eruption of massive geysers of lava.[5]

NRG is quite strong, as he can carry Liam[4], throw a Vaxasaurian off his suit,[2] hold the head of Sunder[6] and Swamps,[2] and fight on par with the Trash Monster.[7]

NRG's containment suit is fireproof, being able to resist a Methanosian's fire attacks.[2][note 1] NRG is also immune to being possessed by a Lucubra due to his suit.[9]

NRG is immune to radiation and extremely cold environments thanks to the heat he generates;[10] this feat was first demonstrated by Ultimate Aggregor during his visit to the planet Mikd'lty.[11]

NRG is immune to being poisoned by lead.[DJW 2]

NRG is immune to being controlled by a Vladat via their Corrupturas by mimicking the radiation of a star.[DJW 3]

True Form

NRG is able to easily open his containment suit and get out whenever he wants to.[MW 1] Outside the suit, all of NRG's powers are enhanced massively. He becomes very agile and gains both flight and intangibility.

Without his containment suit, NRG can expel energy at a higher level and is able to consume it simply as nourishment or to increase his power. He can also fire energy balls and blasts out of his hands, mouth and eyes.[12][11]

NRG can breathe underwater and grow in size if he absorbs and consumes enough energy; these feats were also demonstrated by P'andor.[13]

NRG can absorb an Aerophibian's neuroshock blasts, as demonstrated by P'andor.[13]

NRG can make himself glow like a light bulb, which is bright enough to weaken Ectonurites.[14]

Weaknesses

Due to the dangerous radiation his body gives off, NRG must stay in his suit for the safety of others and keep his radiation level to a minimum. There are, however, downsides to this, as most of his abilities become weaker than outside of the suit.

NRG's containment suit also completely removes several abilities, such as his agility and intangibility. As such, he is unable to fly while in his containment suit.[15]

Certain species can withstand NRG's radiation including Slime-Biots,[DJW 4] Aerophibians, and Evolved Arburian Pelarotas, the latter two of which have been demonstrated with P'andor.[13]

NRG's radioactive blasts can be absorbed by the plasma generated by members of Ball Weevil's species, as demonstrated with Leander. He can also be trapped in said plasma.[16]

NRG can be frozen and immobilized by ice when inside of his suit, such as that generated by a Necrofriggian.[2]

NRG is vulnerable to carbon dampening rods because they can slow down nuclear reactions, thereby inhibiting the radiation he generates, as demonstrated with P'andor. The metallic bodies of Evolved Arburian Pelarotas also inhibits his radiation.[13][note 2]

NRG could also refer to NRG Energy, Inc, a large American energy company founded in 1992, whose portfolio includes nuclear generation.

Trivia

  • Even though Prime Timeline version of NRG first appeared in The Forge of Creation on November 12, 2010, NRG's actual debut took place in Ben 10 Franklin, which originally aired on November 1, 2010.
  • NRG is the only Andromeda alien to not be based on an animal, as Terraspin is a cross between a tortoise and a turtle, Water Hazard is a mollusk, Ampfibian is a jellyfish, and Armodrillo is an armadillo.
    • However, like the other Andromeda aliens, he has powers linked to a certain classical element; for NRG, it is fire.
  • NRG is tied with Gax for the shortest name for any alien in the Ben 10 franchise.
    • NRG and XLR8 are the only aliens whose names are gramograms.
  • NRG speaks with a Russian accent because Russia is known for creating many of the first nuclear weapons, and currently owns about 7,850 nuclear warheads.
  • NRG was the Alien of the Month in June 2011.
  • In all of the Omniverse episodes NRG's true form is seen, the Omnitrix symbol is on both of his containment suits, making him the only non-duplicating alien that has two Omnitrix symbols.
    • However, this is an error because NRG's Omnitrix symbol is supposed to unplug from the armor whenever he gets out of it.[DJW 5]
  • NRG retains P'andor's armor, even though other Prypiatosian-Bs do not have it and it is not part of their genetic sequence. This is because it was added by the Ultimatrix as part of a life support system to keep him from causing radiation poisoning to those who are vulnerable to his radiation.[DM 2]
  • The secondary containment suit NRG wears in Omniverse helps him keep his form and maintain safer radiation levels for a short time out of the suit.[DJW 1]
  • The Brazilian Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Online Editora Sticker Album erroneously states that NRG's homeworld is Nucleria.[merch 3]
  • Ben 23 has an alternate counterpart of NRG.[DJW 6]
  • NRG was designed by Steven Choi[SC 1] and is partially inspired by the 10,000 Volt Ghost from Scooby-Doo.[DJW 7]
