– Professor Paradox explaining the multiverse to No Watch Ben.[1] | ||
The Multiverse,[1] also known as Omniverse[DJW 1] or Cross-Time,[2] is the total sum of all spacetime, comprised of all realities and all versions of history, known as dimensions, timelines or universes. The number of such realities are infinite.[DJW 1][DJW 2][DR 1]
History[]
Background[]
The multiverse arose when timelines changed and branched since the universe was created during the Big Bang at the beginning of time. There are also infinite other universes, similar or wildly different, which are completely independent of the Prime timeline.[3][1]
Ben 10[]
In Truth, Phil released several aliens to Null Void as part of a scam. However, he was eventually sent to the Null Void after failing to send Ben Tennyson there. The aliens Phil had released were eventually sent back by Max Tennyson.
In Back With a Vengeance, Vilgax and Kevin Levin were sent there by Max to Null Void, and Ben was dragged with them. Gwen and Max later saved Ben while Kevin and Vilgax were left behind.
In Ken 10, Ben 10,000 imprisoned Vulkanus, Sploot, and Mot Snikrep using Null Void Containment Eggs that he would later hand to Max to send to the Null Void. Though Kevin would escape the Null Void thanks to Devlin, he was eventually imprisoned in a Null Void Containment Egg when Devlin learned of his father's true colors.
Prior to Ben 10: Secret of the Omnitrix, Vilgax escaped from the Null Void through sheer luck, having stumbled upon a portal being opened on another planet.[pop-up 1][4] From there, he sought to exact his revenge on Ben.
In Race Against Time, Eon escaped from his prison of the Plumbers in an alternate timeline[note 1] that he had invaded in the 1800's,[pop-up 2][5] and attempted to take control of that timeline's Ben to transform him into a younger version of himself and activate the Hand of Armageddon to begin an invasion in this timeline. Although Eon managed to achieve his goals, he was defeated by Ben and sent to cross-time when thrown into Hand of Armageddon.
Five Years Prior to Omniverse[]
Phil was temporarily released from the Null Void by Dr. Psychobos as part of a test for the Nemetrix before being sent back after the test failed, resulting in him mutating into a human/Terroranchula-hybrid.[6][7]
In an attempt to get rid of Ben, Billy Billions ended up accidentally being sent to Dimension 12 and being trapped there.[8]
Servantis sent the "Ben 10 Hit Squad" out of the Null Void in order to defeat Ben. However, they ended up failing due to Kevin mutating again and turning on his teammates before being stopped by a young Argit. When the Amalgam Kids returned, Servantis wiped everyone's memories and let them loose in the Null Void.[9]
Four years after having their memories altered, Pierce Wheels, Helen Wheels, and Manny Armstrong mistakenly used a Mark I Null Void Projector as a disintegrator ray. When Pierce began having doubts about their, he accidentally sent himself to the Null Void.
At some point after Evil's Encore, Dr. Animo got stuck in the Null Void.[10]
Alien Force[]
In Max Out, Max sent several DNAliens to the Null Void using a Null Void Projector. He would later send himself and a Highbreed there when he removed the focusing lens on his projector.[10]
In Plumbers' Helpers, Helen and Manny attempted to send Kevin to the Null Void, though Ben momentarily got sent there in his place before escaping as Swampfire. After learning the truth about their operations, Helen and Manny sent themselves to the Null Void to liberate the aliens they wrongfully imprisoned.
In Darkstar Rising, Darkstar was sent to the Null Void by Prior Gahlil.
In Voided, Dr. Animo had seized control of the Null Void and attempted to break into the main dimension using a Kormite-powered drill. However, he was defeated by Ben, Max, Helen, Pierce, Manny, and others.
In War of the Worlds: Part 1, Darkstar was released from the Null Void by Cooper so he could help the Alien Force battle the Highbreed.
In War of the Worlds: Part 2, Max, Manny, Helen, and Pierce were released from the Null Void in order to participate in the final battle against the Highbreed.
In Singlehanded, Sunder sent Ben (minus his left hand) into the Null Void using his power axe. Kevin managed to restore Ben using a machine that also sent Sunder to the Null Void.
Ultimate Alien[]
In Hero Time, Computron is freed from Dimension 12 by Captain Nemesis so he could save people from him and his robot minions, but Ben arrived and destroyed all of the robots using Jetray and Armodrillo.
In Where the Magic Happens, Charmcaster come to Legerdomain alongside Alien Force. She even ended up putting her life on the line, buying time for the trio to escape, leaving herself behind in Legerdomain.
Sometime after The Forge of Creation, Aggregor was sent to the Null Void after being defeated by Ultimate Kevin.[11][12]
In ...Nor Iron Bars a Cage, Ultimate Kevin sent himself to the Null Void and surrendered to the Null Void Incarcecon guards, aiming to avenge Kwarrel by killing Morgg. Ben and Gwen teleported into the facility to warn Morgg of danger and secretly find Kevin. Learning of Morgg's drug trafficking operation, Ben and Gwen captured him and prevented Kevin from hurting him, prompting Kevin to leave.
Prior to Absolute Power: Part 1, Ultimate Kevin absorbed Dr. Viktor's powers before dumping him into the Null Void. Under unknown circumstances, Dr. Viktor escaped and made his way to Earth.[13][14]
Prior to The Transmogrification of Eunice, Sunder was released from the Null Void by Azmuth so he could retrieve Eunice.
In Girl Trouble, the loyal robots of Computron leaves of Dimension 12 and steal oil to make a fusion bomb that they can use to cause massive destruction as a way to avenge Computron's destruction. They have to use a particle accelerator to complete it, but thanks to Ben, his team and interference from Sunny and Antonio, the robots are sent back in Dimension 12 and the bomb is disarmed by Kevin.
In Ben 10,000 Returns, Eon travels to the future 20 years from Ultimate Alien's timeframe and attacks Ben 10,000's headquarters, where he criticizes Eon's decision to attack him alone. He is then attacked by Eon's minions, but Ben 10,000 eventually defeats Eon, believing he's destroyed.
Back in the present, Ben, Gwen and Kevin are investigating a signal the Ultimatrix found. They find the Hand of Armageddon, and when Ben touches it, it releases some of Eon's soldiers. They are soon beaten by the trio, only to disappear right after. In the future, Paradox tells Ben 10,000 that Eon is not dead and he is destroying alternate versions of Ben.
Gwen touches the Hand of Armageddon and reveals an alternate timeline which they don't recall. Paradox and Ben 10,000 arrives soon after. Ben 10,000 reveals he is a different future duplicate than from the one Ben met when he was 10 and Paradox explains cross-time to the team. Paradox informs them that the Hand of Armageddon is the source to their troubles. They take it out to destroy it. Not soon after, Eon and his minions arrive. It is soon revealed that Eon's minions are alternate Bens that he kidnapped, and that Eon is an alternate Ben. Eon reveals his plan to create new timeline where he is the only Ben Tennyson in existence. Soon enough, Eon is defeated when Jetray destroys the Hand of Armageddon, causing all of the timelines Eon altered to be restored to normal.
In Enemy of My Frenemy, Gwen, Ben and Kevin return to the Legerdomain to rescue Charmcaster, unaware that she has taken over the dimension.
In Couples Retreat, Darkstar manages to travel to the Legerdomain, in addition to the Alien Force team having followed him there.
In Ben 10/Generator Rex: Heroes United, Ben was at a celebrity gig when a strange storm picked him up and dumped him into Rex's dimension, where he mistook Rex Salazar for an alien attempting to destroy Bellwood. However, he was also mistaken for an EVO, who Rex tried to cure, but both found that they were not what the other thought they were.
"Captured", Ben was taken back to Rex's with an unconscious Agent Six following a battle with an unknown enemy he had been chasing through the storm. While in the base, Ben learned of what was going on in that world, becoming confused by some facts, but generally grasping things are not going good.
Deciding to team up with Rex, Ben met Caesar, Rex' brother and learned that he had banished the Alpha nanite to the Null Void, thinking it was an empty dimension when in reality it's a prison for alien criminals.
Together, Rex and Ben teamed up to defeat Alpha. With Caesar's help, Ben entered the Null Void as a stop on the way back home, using Murk Upchuck to dump Alpha into the Null Void.
Omniverse[]
At some point prior to The More Things Change: Part 1, Bubble Helmet was released from Null Void by Psyphon to become a member of his gang.[15]
Ben Tennyson meets Ben 23 in the 23rd Dimension in Store 23, after accidentally entering Dimension 23 through Blarney T. Hokestar's interdimensional branch of Mr. Smoothy. Ben 23 proved to be a braggart and show-off who preferred to use his alien forms for publicity instead of altruism, and even gave Ben a few of his tips for crowd-pleasing. It's eventually revealed that the Intellectuary was the 23rd dimension's Azmuth and would have killed Ben 23 if not for Ben Prime's intervention. Ben 23 admitted that due to the death of his Grandpa Max, he ended up using fame and fortune to fill the void Max had left behind. His dimension's Azmuth consoled Ben 23, acknowledging that he had suffered greatly due to Max's death and promised to guide him well in his place.
In The Frogs of War: Part 2, the Way Bads were sent to the Null Void by the Plumbers
After Ben destroyed (or dispersed) him in their last battle off-screen, Zs'Skayr's essence ended up in Legerdomain[DJW 3] and escaped from there in Mystery, Incorporeal.
In Charmed, I'm Sure, Charmcaster appeared on Anur Transyl to take back the Alpha Rune, which had been stolen by Zs'Skayr. She even managed to get the Rune with the help of Ben, Rook and Hobble, but she was sent back to Legerdormain by a spell from Rook.
In And Then There Were None, Eon joined forces with Vilgax to, as Eon believed, create an army of evil Omnitrix-wielders under Vilgax's control, which Eon achieved through gathering an army of evil Ben Tennysons from all across the multiverse and destroying those among the alternate Bens who refused to join. After Vilgax and Eon had five evil versions of Ben -Albedo, Bad Ben, Mad Ben, Benzarro, and Nega Ben- under their control, they went to the No Watch Timeline, with Eon and the evil Bens intending to destroy No Watch Ben since his reality's lack of an Omnitrix made it an unpredictable temporal wildcard. Paradox learns that Eon and Vilgax are abducting and brainwashing alternate Bens into serving them. He and Ben Prime travel to No Watch Ben's timeline, and are surprised that there is no Omnitrix in that Universe. They are confronted by Vilgax and Eon's evil Bens, who are countered by several alternate Bens. The evil alternate Bens partake in an all out battle rumble between them along with Ben 10,000, Gwen 10, and Ben 23.
Vilgax reveals his true plan is to wipe out every Ben of every dimension, minus No Watch Ben, and that includes Eon and the evil Bens as well. Using a Chronosapien Time Bomb, Vilgax wipes out all other Bens and their timelines. He then sets his sights on No Watch Ben, but he is saved by Paradox. Fortunately, before Ben Prime faded away, his Omnitrix was transferred onto No Watch Ben, and with guidance from Paradox, intends to fix all reality with it.
In And Then There Was Ben, Paradox and No Watch Ben set out to restore the multiverse, for start they go to the Prime timeline in the Chimeran Hammer. It is finally restored by No Watch Ben as Clockwork.
In It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Ben World: Part 1, Ben Prime and Ben 23 end up in Mad Ben's dimension because of an accidental energy attack caused by Maltruant.
In It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Ben World: Part 2, after Mad Ben is defeated by the two alternative Bens, they manage to return to their original dimensions thanks to Blarney T. Hokestar's interdimensional Mr. Smoothy.
In Third Time's a Charm, Charmcaster lured Gwen to Legerdomain and turned her into a totem.

Trivia[]
- Literally, a multiverse is a collection of numerous universes, while an omniverse is a collection of all universes (and by extension all multiverses).[35][36]
- To Derrick J. Wyatt, a multiverse means the same thing as an omniverse.[DJW 1]
- The first use of the term "Omniverse" was as the title for Ben 10: Omniverse before being mentioned as a concept in the Reboot's Alien Worlds shorts.
- The Classic Continuity and the Reboot Continuity are part of a greater Cartoon Network omniverse.[32]
- Duncan Rouleau claims the Reboot is canon to the Classic Continuity as an alternate reality.[DR 2][DR 3][DR 4][DR 5] He also states that it is possible for Classic Ben and Reboot Ben to meet.[DR 6]
- Derrick J. Wyatt also thought of the Reboot as an alternate universe canon to the Classic Continuity.[DJW 37]
- Duncan Rouleau claims the Reboot is canon to the Classic Continuity as an alternate reality.[DR 2][DR 3][DR 4][DR 5] He also states that it is possible for Classic Ben and Reboot Ben to meet.[DR 6]
- The dimensions have names/nicknames like the Gweniverse.[DJW 38]
- Although alternative timelines exist, changes to the past caused by time travel have been shown to alter the future of the same timeline rather than creating a new timeline.
- Examples of this time travel method that alters the future instead of creating a new timeline can be seen in the episodes: Merry Christmas, Paradox, Time Heals, Ben 10,000 Returns (Ben 10,000 says that if they lose, the future ceases, not that it turns into another timeline), The Secret of Dos Santos, Animo Crackers, etc. Additionally, the game Ben 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks, the movie Ben 10: Race Against Time, Ultimate Alien Future[note 6] and Azmuth 10 Timeline[DJW 39] also work with this time travel logic.
- Although the episode Ben 10,000 does not follow this logic, Professor Paradox calls that timeline cross-time,[2] suggesting that this timeline was not in fact Ben's real future, but rather a future identical to the one Ben would have had if he hadn't gone to the future when he was 10 years old.
- Derrick J. Wyatt believed that there is only one Null Void and Legerdomain shared across the Multiverse.[DJW 40][DJW 41]
- Certain dimensions or timelines have "numeric concatenation":[37] a property of reality wherein the same singular number will appear repeatedly and in completely random places.[38]
- Generally, the video games and/or comics aren't canon because they need an internal thematic core binding them. The comics and video games haven't always drawn from canon and are so disparate from each other it would be difficult to find the connective tissue providing that common core.[DR 8]
- For Duncan Rouleau, all alternative media, in the mostly cases, are from their own timelines.[DR 9]
- The What If episodes of the Original Series were never considered alternate timelines,[CM 1] being only episodes that never occurred.[pop-up 6][39]
- The Transformers multiverse and Ben 10 interact with each other.[AVP 1][DJW 42]
- Although the multiverse is usually referred to as alternative dimensions and timelines, not all universes presented during the series follow this pattern, for example, the universe closest (physically) to the main universe has counterintuitive laws of physics according to Paradox, the Forge of Creation itself functions as an alternate universe that is in no way derivative of the main universe. There are also other universes created by the Contumelia that have no relation to the main universe.
- During and after Ben 10: Omniverse' production, Derrick J. Wyatt came up with many alternate timeline concept ideas.[DJW 43]
- Irene 13 - A timeline where a woman named Irene gets the Omnitrix. When conceptualizing Irene 13, Derrick J. Wyatt wanted her to be creepy good[DJW 44] and only use aliens from the Anur System.[DJW 45][DJW 46]
- Clyde GO! - A timeline focusing on Clyde Fife and his Cincotrix. "Go" is the Japanese word for five.[DJW 47]
- Brenda 10 - A timeline where a woman named Brenda, who is a gender-bent version of Ben, gets the Omnitrix.[DJW 48]
- Max 10 - A timeline where Max Tennyson gets the Omnitrix.
- Ben 100 - A timeline focusing on 20-year-old Ben at a crucial fork in the Prime Timeline. Depending on what he chooses to do, he can become either Ben 10,000 or Eon.[DJW 49]
- Azmuth 10 - A timeline where everything else has failed, so, as a very final resort, Azmuth goes back in time and gives his younger self the Omnitrix in hopes of totally rewriting the timeline.[DJW 39]
- Soviet Ben - A timeline where Ben Tennyson, who lives in the Soviet Union, gets the Omnitrix.[DJW 50]
- Nemetrix Ben - A timeline where Ben Tennyson is driven mad and feral due to wearing the Nemetrix.[DJW 51]
- Wild West Ben/Spaghetti Western Ben - A timeline where everything is in the Wild West setting, paying homage to the Westerns.[DJW 52] Ben Tennyson of this timeline, The Ben With No Name, would walk the line between good and evil but have a moral code.[DJW 53]
- Ben 10BC - A timeline where a caveman Ben Tennyson gets the Omnitrix.[DJW 54]
- Heroic Zs'Skayr - A timeline in which Zs'Skayr is or becomes good and decides to help Ben as Ghostfreak.[DJW 55]
- Benjamin XXIII - A timeline where Ben 23 grew up to become a superhero known as Benjamin XXIII. He started to call himself Benjamin XXIII after returning from a period of retirement.[DJW 56] He is like Conner4Real from the mockumentary musical comedy film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping[DJW 57] and uses some kind of future Hero Watch. Derrick J. Wyatt thought that maybe he will even create the massively powerful Hero Watch-Amacallit.[DJW 58]
- War Universe - A timeline where Ultimate Forms exist as natural species.[DJW 59][DJW 60]

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The events of Ben 10: Race Against Time were originally canon to the Prime Timeline.[DM 1] They have been retconned into an alternate timeline as of Ben 10,000 Returns.[BTP 1]
- ↑ The Omniverse crew brought back the Ben 10,000 from the Original Series instead of working on a new one like in Ultimate Alien.[DJW 4][DJW 5][DJW 6][DJW 7][DJW 8][DJW 9][DJW 10][DJW 11]
- He is from further in the future after the events of Ken 10,[DJW 12] after having learnt the lessons from his encounter with his 10 year old self[DJW 11] and lightened up.[DJW 13]
- This is due to:
- The executives' push for having everything more like the Original Series, which was the most successful of the franchise.[DJW 9]
- The crew's preference of the original Ben 10,000[DJW 8] over the Ultimate Alien portrayal.[DJW 10][DJW 14]
- Derrick J. Wyatt made several further statements to corroborate this, expanding on what was known from the Original Series, such as the backstories for the Biomnitrix and future Kevin Levin invoking the plotlines of Ben 10,000[DJW 13] and Ken 10[DJW 15] respectively, the defining tragedy in Ben 10,000's life having now occurred at the age of 20,[DJW 16] "shifted" from the original age of 15,[pop-up 3][17] etc.
- The writing of the show also explicitly called this out, such as when Ben identified the future Dr. Animo as the same person who he encountered in Ben 10,000.[18][LU 1]
- ↑ Ben 10,000 is stated to be Ben Prime's true future self.[DJW 7][DJW 17]
- This is evidenced in-show in Omniverse by the fact that both the Ben 10,000[19][20] and the future Dr. Animo[18] recalled characters and events from the present day. Chrono-Spanner also frequently visits present day with effects of his actions manifest in his present.[21] This creates causal time loops and would not be possible if these characters belonged to an alternate timeline.
- Deliberate efforts were made throughout the last few seasons to align the story with the original future timeline, in terms of character designs, set designs and plot lines. Examples include setting up Ben's relationship with Kai,[22][DJW 18] Kevin getting his chin scar,[9][DJW 19] Gwen going by Gwendolyn since starting college,[23][17] and so on.
- This was inconsistent with Ben 10,000 Returns, in which Ben 10,000 was retconned into hailing from an alternate timeline disconnected from the Prime Timeline.[3][BTP 1] Thus it was explained why Ben 10,000 was not shown to recall the events of the episode from his younger self's perspective.[2][DM 2][DM 3][DM 4]
- Derrick responded to the matter by saying: "Your 'plot holes' are irrelevant. Time isn't completely fixed, it's shifting. Events can be subtly altered. But Ben 10,000 is the future for the Ben Prime timeline."[DJW 7]
- He further explained that future is always in flux,[DJW 20] and is constantly affected by current events, especially by the meddling of the present by time travellers.[DJW 17][17] Thus, Ben 10,000, ie, Ben's true future will always be changing, depending on the future writers of the show. Any of the futures we see on the show are thus only possible futures.[MW 1][MW 2] Ben 10,000 is thus only Ben's current future, but may not be the one he ends up being.[pop-up 4][17][pop-up 5][24]
- This is evidenced in-show in Omniverse by the fact that both the Ben 10,000[19][20] and the future Dr. Animo[18] recalled characters and events from the present day. Chrono-Spanner also frequently visits present day with effects of his actions manifest in his present.[21] This creates causal time loops and would not be possible if these characters belonged to an alternate timeline.
- ↑ In 2014, when asked about whether the future would be seen in Omniverse, Derrick J. Wyatt said that it was seen in Ben Again as the end of time.[DJW 21] However, in April 2020, he stated that the place Eon had trapped Paradox in was a dead universe outside of normal spacetime.[DJW 22] He would later reinstate that it was the end of time in June 2021.[DJW 23] As Eon brought Professor Paradox there whilst stated to be confined to the Prime timeline,[25] the wiki considers this to be the end of the Prime timeline.
- ↑ In Voided, a Null Void Settler claims that the Null Void was created by the Galvans. However, Derrick J. Wyatt claimed that the Null Void was not created by anyone, instead being a dimension outside the normal timestream.[DJW 24] But since it was stated in the series that the Null Void was created by the Galvans, and isn't contradicted by any other source in the series, the statement is considered canon.[BTP 2]
- ↑ 6.0 6.1 This timeline was the true future of the Prime Timeline as of Ben 10,000 Returns,[3][2] but that has since been changed as of Omniverse, with the re-introduction of the original Ben 10,000 as the current true future of Ben Prime.[DJW 7][DJW 17][BTP 1] Thus, this timeline was effectively erased.[DJW 29][DJW 30]
- ↑ In Race Against Time, Eon was a Chronian from the planet Chronia. This was retconned in Ben 10,000 Returns, in which he is revealed to be an alternate version of Ben Tennyson, making him a human from an alternate Earth.[2][DJW 31][DJW 32] The events of the movie, in addition to being heavily revised (aka retconned), would also now take place in an alternate timeline.[3][2] Thus, Chronians and Chronia were effectively erased from the proper canon of Ben 10.[DJW 33][BTP 1]
- ↑ Derrick J. Wyatt said that no backstory was ever written for Bad Ben.[DJW 34] However, Matt Youngberg stated in an Total Access commercial that Bad Ben has the same story as Ben Prime, with the difference being that he made bad choices instead of good ones.[MY 1]
