At some point prior to Waterfilter, the Omnitrix lands near Mt. Rushmore, and Ben ends up finding it.

In Ben Again and Again, Billy Billions attempts to carve his face into Mt. Rushmore, but Ben stops him. Later, Billy turns his focus on removing the Omnitrix from Ben, but once he accidentally rips open a rift in space-time.
In Summer Breakers, Ben, Gwen, Max and Phil went to the place where the Omnitrix crashed to find a strange energy signal there, just as Breaker One-Nine was behind it. At the end of the episode, Gwen finds the source of energy, which was the Omnitrix Key, giving it to Ben, who inserts it into the Omnitrix, updating it.
