Magic is the power to affect matter and energy by supernatural means. Magic is often divided between black and white, though depending on the situation can also be neutral. Magic is a practiced technique that is powered by mana, or life energy.

Background

Magic is the manipulation of energy, and technology is just another way to control the process.[1] Some species (e.g. humans and Geochelone Aerios) can be taught to use magic. Anodites have a strong innate capacity for manipulating mana, and thus by extension magic, in all its forms. In terms of raw power, they're stronger than even a master magician; for example, Gwen can use the more powerful spells in the Archamada Book of Spells, whereas Hex, a master magician, cannot do so without all the Charms of Bezel.

According to Gwen, reviving the dead is the darkest of dark magic and forbidden.[2]

Items

There are many magical artifacts that can focus or magnify a sorcerer or sorceress' power.

Spells and Incantations

See Also: Spells

A spell is a specific action which — when performed correctly — channels supernatural energy that allows the individual to achieve a specific result based on the composition of the casting. Spells allow individuals to alter reality on certain levels, such as affecting the physical properties of objects and people, giving the caster access to supernatural powers and changing the very mechanics of reality itself.

For reasons unknown, the majority of spells used in the series are spoken in an ancient language very similar to Latin. Although majority of the spells are spoken out loud in order to be cast, some spells can be used non-verbally and still take effect. There are many different types of spells, but most are either offensive or defensive in nature.
