Lepidopterrans[1][2] are a species from the planet Lepidopterra.[merch 1]

Appearance

The Lepidopterrans are an insectoid species with four insect-like pincer legs and two arms with hands consisting of three clawed fingers. They have four pupiled[note 1] eyes that grow out on stalks as pairs on each side of their head.[note 2] Their wings are very thin and fragile, with vein lines and a holey, two-pronged shape. They have tails that end in an armored, stinger-like growth.

Infant Lepidopterrans have large eyes and much smaller wings and tails. Their bodies also appear fatter.

Adult male Lepidopterrans have more muscular eye stalks, larger tail stingers that curl at the tip, and much larger and wider front legs.

Only male Lepidopterrans have been seen. It is unknown what females look like.

Lepidopterran/Worm Hybrids

Lepidopterran/Worm hybrids are similar to normal worms, but green and have a Lepidopterran tail and head, but with five eyes instead of four.

Tetramand/Lepidopterran Hybrids

Tetramand/Lepidopterran hybrids retain most of the Tetramand's traits, except for the Lepidopterran wings, tail, and eyes.

Lepidopterran/Crab Hybrids

Lepidopterran/Crab hybrids are similar to normal crabs but have Lepidopterran eyes and wings.

Human/Lepidopterran Hybrids

Human/Lepidopterran hybrids look like an insect larva with human head and hair but with Lepidopterran teeth and eyes.

Behaviour

Lepidopterrans spend most of their lives harvesting the giant plants on Lepidopterra.[pop-up 1][3] There, they reside in a complex of giant hives and act as the predominant inhabitants.[merch 1]

Powers and Abilities

A Lepidopterran's primary ability is to squirt high-pressured streams of green, slimy liquid from the glands located inside of their eyestalks and mouths. This slime is strong enough to hold a helicopter[4] and hold down a Crabdozer.[5] Lepidopterrans are capable of utilizing their slime in a number of useful capacities, such as ensnaring their opponents,[2] or blasting a stream of it out of their mouth, solid enough to pull themselves upwards like a makeshift grappling hook.[6]

Lepidopterrans can produce slime of differing properties, and they can instinctively choose which type of slime to expel.[MW 1] Examples include an immobilizing adhesive[7] and a flammable toxin.[8]

Lepidopterrans possess two dragon-shaped insectoid wings that allow quick and agile flying and can change directions at exceptional paces.

a Lepidopterran's black tail is extremely sharp with a stinger-like end that can tear and rend through steel almost effortlessly.[7] Their tails are ultra sensitive receptors, making them like antennas.[pop-up 2][9] A Lepidopterran's claws and sharp-pointed legs allow them to cling onto solid surfaces.[10]

Lepidopterrans have great strength in proportion to their bodies, as Stinkfly was able to carry heavy loads while maintaining steady flight.[11] Their carrying power comes to its limit when holding something very heavy, shown when Stinkfly could keep flying while Vilgax was holding onto him.[12]

A Lepidopterran's exoskeletal body is fairly strong, allowing them to survive unscathed while being smashed through buildings and being caught inside a large explosion.[12]

Lepidopterrans have enhanced hearing, as Stinkfly was able to hear a conversation over the sound of a helicopter while both he and it were flying.[13]

The flexible nature nature of a Lepidopterran's eyestalks give them 360-degree vision, as they are able to move two eyes at the back of their heads and keep the other two eyes at the front of their heads.[10]

Lepidopterrans accompanied by a natural odor-like stink that comes from the oils they secrete to keep their exoskeleton joints moving.[pop-up 3][14]

Lepidopterrans are capable of releasing toxic gas and methane gas,[DR 1] the former of which was used by Stinkfly to kill plant-like creatures.[15]

Weaknesses

An opponent could take advantage of a Lepidopterran's wings, as if their wings are held down, they are unable to fly.[12][16] If their wings get completely soaked in water, they become limp and heavy and they'll be completely incapable of flight until their wings dry off.[6][17]

Lepidopterrans are unable to swim due to their unbalanced body weight and thin limbs.[17]

A Lepidopterran can be tied in place by their tails.[18]

A more minor inconvenience is a Lepidopterran's odor, which can be a problem if they are trying to hide from anything or anyone that can smell.[2]

Lepidopterrans are at a massive disadvantage against a Buglizard due to its slime neutralizing fog.[5][19]

Lepidopterrans are vulnerable against electricity, as shown when Stinkfly was shocked while trying to attack Phil as Terroranchula.[19] Lepidopterrans are also vulnerable to strong winds.[20]

Lepidopterrans are implied to be vulnerable to fire, as shown when Stinkfly backed away from a growing fire.[7]

Etymology

The name "Lepidopterran" is derived from the insect order "Lepidoptera," comprised of butterflies and moths.

Trivia

  • Lepidopterrans are Dr. Animo's favorite aliens.[pop-up 4][16]
    • Partly because of this, Lepidopterrans are tied with Pyronites for being the species that has produced the highest number of unique hybrids.
  • A Lepidopterran's tail is an ultra sensitive receptor, making it like an antenna.[pop-up 5][22]
  • Lepidopterrans do not have typical characteristics of insects of the order Lepidoptera, such as two pairs of wings, having only one.
