The Great One (also known as The Tick)[Bandai 1] was a giant, tick-like parasitic alien that travelled from world to world all over the cosmos, exsanguinating the energy from the planets it landed on, destroying them as it metabolized their cores.
Appearance[]
It resembles a purple tick with four blue sack-like eyes, four purple insectoid legs, and an abdomen bigger than its own head. When it molts its shell, it exposes a pale whitish brown on the abdomen.
History[]
Ben 10[]
Not much is known about the Great One prior to its arrival on Earth, other than it was responsible for the destruction of Arburia, approximately one week beforehand. It is also worshipped by at least three alien individuals whose worlds it had also presumably devoured.
The Great One came to Earth with its worshippers in The Big Tick, intent on devouring the planet. During this process, it began spreading toxins all over the landscape, mutating the surrounding plant life as it metabolized Earth's internal energy. After entering the final phase of its ingestion process, it started shedding its outer layer and secreting fluid. The Great One’s worshippers gave Ben, Gwen, and Max Tennyson sponges and forced them to clean the Great One's body.
After its intent to consume Earth was revealed, Ben transformed into several aliens in an attempt to destroy the Great One, but it appeared to be invulnerable to their abilities.
Sometime later, Ben reluctantly transformed into Cannonbolt. He soon learned that Cannonbolt’s species (Arburian Pelarota) was able to penetrate the Great One’s shell during its shedding process and used this opportunity to destroy the creature from within.
Powers and Abilities[]
The Great One's absorption process poisoned and eventually made the planet it fed on implode. It also caused the landscape to mutate as an extra defense, making it very difficult to attack once the process had begun.
The Great One's shell appeared impenetrable to most forms of power and weaponry, as evidenced by when Grandpa Max and Gwen used fallen pieces of its shell to fend off the Great One's followers' attacks (which didn't even scratch them). None of Ben's aliens were able to break the outer shell until he finally used Cannonbolt to destroy it from the inside after it shed some of his shell.
The Great One secreted acidic slime that seems to specifically dissolve inorganic matter.
On top of that, the Great One was followed by a group of aliens that worshipped the creature, following it "from planet to planet, galaxy to galaxy". They aided the Great One in its task, defending it from attackers.
Weaknesses[]
The Great One's outer shell protects any sort of outward attack, but none of its innards are in any way protected, which proved to be a fatal weakness when Ben was able to infiltrate it and wreak wayward havoc as Cannonbolt.

Trivia[]
- The Great One is similar to many cosmic beings of unstoppable force, most notably Galactus from Marvel Comics.
- They even share the same primary colour scheme of pink, purple, and azure.
- The Great One was one of the toughest foes Ben has faced, with none of the aliens he had access to at the time (except Cannonbolt) being able to harm it, and coming the closest to destroying the Earth.
