The Galvan[1][2] (also known as the Galvin)[3][4] are an amphibious, insectivorous species from the planet Galvan Prime,[merch 1] until it was destroyed,[5] rebuilt, and renamed Galvan Mark II.[6]
Appearance[]
The Galvan are a species of small bipedal frog-like amphibians.
Galvan are about six inches tall on average.[7] Their bodies consist of soft and flexible bones,[DM 1] allowing them to squeeze into tight spaces or quickly escape from danger.
Unlike humans, the Galvan have large, bulbous eyes with rectangular pupils. They have two sets of eyelids, which close vertically and horizontally, respectively. Normal Galvan have green eyes,[DM 2] except Albedo, who has red eyes (as his colors were inverted).[4] Galvan from Dimension 23 have blue eyes.
Galvan tadpoles are only heads with tails, and lack any extra limbs.
Female Galvan grow thin tendrils on their head. Male Galvan grow similar tendrils but on their chin, when they turn into adults. Older Galvan appear to have more wrinkles on their skin.
Reproduction[]
The Galvan have a remarkably similar life cycle to Earth frogs. One of their first phases of life is their "childhood", which is spent as tadpoles swimming in water.[8] The next phase happens when the tadpole begins growing two feet near the base of their tail, which are called "wisdom feet".[9] They are a sign of maturity[10] and mark the transition from childhood to adolescence.[DJW 1] Their tails are lost during this stage or in a following stage.
On average, a Galvan lives for thousands of years;[DM 1] though their lifespan can be pushed to extremes, as Azmuth is already several thousand years old, and expects to live at least another three thousand years,[11] and is nowhere near being considered the oldest Galvan.[DM 3] The Galvan may have even found a way to circumvent their aging, as at least one Galvan has been transferred to a younger clone body.[DJW 2]
History[]
Prime Timeline[]
The Galvan originally had no empire to speak of, instead they were first kept as pets, and then employed by other species as industrial technicians, spies, and saboteurs once their intelligence became known.[DM 1]
The Galvan were smart enough to keep the best secrets for themselves, eventually amassing enough knowledge to build a powerful empire of their own.[DM 1]
Now, the Galvan are largely considered by most everyone to be technological geniuses.[12][13]
Nega Ben's Timeline[]
Soon after Azmuth created the Omnitrix, the Galvan were wiped out by a rogue Celestialsapien coerced by Maltruant.[DJW 3]
Culture[]
The Galvan as a whole largely advocate for peace, being among the very first civilizations to sign on to the Galactic Code of Conduct,[DM 4] as well as helping expand the Code by contributing an entire subsection.[14]
"First Thinker" is an honorary title among Galvan civilization, created for and held by Azmuth, and appointed to him as early as five years before Omniverse.[15] It describes a Galvan that always plans for every contingency.[16] As a result, matters of utmost importance, like national security, are brought to the First Thinker.[17]
Local Galvan city architecture has motifs of towering buildings with multiple levels of bulbous rooms. They are made from a grown techno-organic fungus; Galvan technology in general is very eco-friendly and works in harmony with nature.[DJW 4]
The primitive Galvans worshipped ancient machine gods long ago.[pop-up 1][2][merch 2]
The Galvan are incessant collectors of all things technological, and raise their young to be able to enter complex machines and operate them from the inside.[DM 1]
The Galvan adorn their technology with a green hourglass-like logo.[DJW 5]
The Galvan are implied to have a very developed education system. They have tests known as G.A.T.s that can be completed when as young as tadpoles, and getting a perfect score on all of them when still as a tadpole is considered impressive.[16] They also have a Plumber training program;[8] and museums containing historical knowledge and artifacts, of which groups of young Galvan are sometimes given tours.[18]
There are some Galvan that live outside the cities of Galvan Prime that have less tech-focused lives.[DJW 4]
Diet[]
The Galvan are insectivores,[DJW 6] as seen when Blukic eagerly ate one of Dr. Animo's technobugs.[19] Some Galvan, such as Azmuth,[5] Blukic, and Driba[20] also have a liking for smoothies, notably grasshopper-flavored smoothies.
It was demonstrated by Grey Matter that Galvans can eat jellybeans.[21]
Powers and Abilities[]
A Galvan's small size belies their great calculative and technical intellect. They can create extremely advanced machinery from spare parts, understand the function of any device at a glance, and make sophisticated repairs to complex machines (such as a warp-drive engine).[22] In fact, when Ben becomes Grey Matter, he instantly knows more about the Omnitrix's inner workings, including its malfunctions;[7] how to rectify it being tampered with; and how to remove its limiter (the latter two being demonstrated by Ben 23 as Brainfrog[23] and Ken as Grey Matter[24], respectively.)
A Galvan's intellect serves as a problem solver and analytical help in difficult situations. This allows the Galvan to think more strategically when brute force is inefficient. They are also generally knowledgeable; even if they do not know something, they can learn it very quickly.[DJW 7]
A Galvan's brain capacity makes them smarter about things they have never even seen before, like when Grey Matter saw Kraab's alien circuitry.[pop-up 2][25] A Galvan's multidisciplinary intellect can also extend to understanding certain languages, such as that of the Lovely Duck's Artificial Intelligence, Pyxi.
A Galvan's size allows them to squeeze into small spaces and they can climb walls due to microscopic pads on their skin.[pop-up 3][2] They also have sharp teeth that can cause massive pain to those they bite.[7]
The Galvan are stronger than they look, as Grey Matter was strong enough to move a cleaner's bucket with mops in it[26] and break a coolant pipe to freeze the Vreedle Brothers.[27]
The Galvan can breathe underwater[28] due to having gills, making them amphibious.[DJW 8]
The Galvan have long prehensile tongues, owing to their insectivore nature, as demonstrated with Blukic.[19] They also possesses a 'pre-brain' which deals with all basic bodily functions.[29][30]
Weaknesses[]
A Galvan's small size makes them unsuitable for physical battle, so they must outsmart their enemies in a fight. Animals like dogs and cats can be a problem, as they may see a Galvan as a chew toy or food to them.[26]
Despite possessing immense intelligence, the Galvan can still make miscalculations, as Grey Matter's attempt to upgrade the Rust Bucket's air conditioner caused it to overheat instead, incapacitating the vehicle.[31] Galvan intelligence also varies and is not a given for every one, as Blukic and Driba prove time and time again.
The Galvan at a massive disadvantage against the Nemetrix's sample of a Omnivoracious due to their small size.[18]
The Galvan are vulnerable to electricity.[32]

Etymology[]
The name Galvan is a reference to Italian physicist Luigi Galvani, who discovered the electrical impulses of the nervous system by performing experiments on frogs (hence the Galvan's frog-like appearance).
Trivia[]
- The Galvan intellect is apparently highly revered as even the former Highbreed Supreme said that the Galvan were "a slightly more intelligent form of pond scum".[34]
- The Galvan have been involved in Earth's history countless times, including building the Pyramids of Giza,[35] building the Stonehenge as a prank,[36][37] giving Ascalon to Sir George,[38] causing the Roswell Incident, and protecting Earth from Benevelon's attack before it was incorporated.[8]
- The Galvan are currently the species that have the most named characters in the show, besides humans.
- The Galvan were the first species added to the Omnitrix.[DJW 14] However, the DNA sample used for Grey Matter did not come from either Azmuth or Albedo.[DJW 15]
- The Techadon Weaponmasters don't accept the fact that the Galvan are smarter than them. So, they try everything to make the Galvan look bad.[GT 1][GT 2]
- Primitive Galvan worshipped ancient technological gods, whom Azmuth's Biosuit somewhat resembles.[pop-up 1][2]
- The Galvan admire the Planchaküles' industriousness and skill, but prefer not to hang out with them too much after work.[DJW 16]
- Initially, female Galvans had hair while male Galvans did not.[pop-up 5][39] This was partially retconned in the sequels, where female Galvans have tendrils instead.[38]
- Had Omniverse continued past Season 8, a Galvan colored like a poisonous frog would have appeared as a member of the Negative 10, but not as the group's leader.[DJW 17][DJW 18][DJW 19]
- The writers' naming convention for Galvan in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien was to use astronomical terms.[DM 5]
- The idea to name multiple Galvans after creators of the series started after T.J. Collins named Blukic and Driba.[DJW 20]
- The Galvans' real language is a combination of grunts and grumbles.[8] To facilitate their understanding with other species, they developed a universal translator embedded in their costumes.[8]
