The Galvan[1][2] (also known as the Galvin)[3][4] are an amphibious, insectivorous species from the planet Galvan Prime,[merch 1] until it was destroyed,[5] rebuilt, and renamed Galvan Mark II.[6]

The Galvan are a species of small bipedal frog-like amphibians.

Galvan are about six inches tall on average.[7] Their bodies consist of soft and flexible bones, allowing them to squeeze into tight spaces or quickly escape from danger.

Unlike humans, the Galvan have large, bulbous eyes with rectangular pupils. They have two sets of eyelids, which close vertically and horizontally, respectively. Normal Galvan have green eyes,[DM 1] except Albedo, who has red eyes (as his colors were inverted).[4] Galvan from Dimension 23 have blue eyes.

Infant Galvan look like tadpoles; they have tails and lack legs, but they grow legs and shed their tails at a time they call "wisdom feet".[DJW 1]

Female Galvan grow thin tendrils on their head. Male Galvan grow similar tendrils but on their chin, when they turn into adults.

Older Galvan appear to have more wrinkles on their skin. Though how old Galvan appear to be isn't always an indication of age, as at least one Galvan has been transferred to a younger clone body.[DJW 2]

Ancient Galvans

The Galvan originally had no empire to speak of, instead they were first kept as pets and then employed by other species as industrial technicians, spies, and saboteurs once their intelligence became known.

The Galvan were smart enough to keep the best secrets for themselves, eventually amassing enough knowledge to build a powerful empire of their own, based on the technology that they kept from the rest of the universe.

Now, most Galvan are considered by others to be technological geniuses.[8][9]

The Galvan as a whole are largely advocates for peace, being among the very first civilizations to sign on to the Galactic Code of Conduct, as well as helping expand the Code by contributing a section.

"First Thinker" is an honorary title among Galvan civilization, currently being held by Azmuth as late as five years before Omniverse. Matters of utmost importance like national security are brought to the First Thinker.

Local Galvan city architecture has motifs of towering buildings with multiple levels of bulbous rooms. They are made from a grown techno-organic fungus. Galvan technology in general is very eco-friendly and works in harmony with nature.[DJW 3]

The primitive Galvans worshipped ancient machine gods long ago.[pop-up 1][2][merch 2] Galvan have museums containing historical knowledge and artifacts. Groups of young Galvan are sometimes given tours of these museums.[10]

There are some Galvan that live outside the cities of Galvan Prime that have less tech-focused lives.[DJW 3]

The Galvan are insectivores,[DJW 4] as seen when Blukic eagerly ate one of Dr. Animo's technobugs.[11] Some Galvan, such as Azmuth,[5] Blukic, and Driba[12] also have a liking for smoothies, notably grasshopper-flavored smoothies.

It was demonstrated by Grey Matter that Galvans can eat jellybeans.[13]

Powers and Abilities

The Galvan are naturally extremely intelligent and can enter complex machines and operate them from the inside. This allows them to understand and operate virtually any machine, even if they've never seen it before.[pop-up 2][14] Their intelligence also allows them to understand intricate codes and languages. The Galvan are the smartest beings in the galaxy.[DJW 5]

Even if something is unfamiliar to them, Galvan can learn it very quickly. After all, their intelligence extends beyond technology and biology.[DJW 6]

When the situation requires it, the Galvan are able to jury-rig or improvise weapons and emergency repairs, using whatever materials that they have on hand, like loose change, belt buckles and shoelaces.

With the microscopic pads that cover their bodies,[pop-up 3][2][merch 3] the Galvan can stick to almost any surface. They also have slime on their bodies, making them difficult to grab.[citation needed]

The Galvan have teeth sharp enough to give painful bites.

Similar to frogs, the Galvan have long sticky tongues, which they use to capture insects for food.[11]

The Galvan can breathe underwater because they possess gills, making them amphibious.[DJW 7]

The Galvan have two brains, the main brain, and a pre-brain. The main brain has the appearance of a glowing green sphere, which is able to survive completely separate from their body and speak. The pre-brain handles the basic bodily functions, much like the medulla oblongata does for the human brain. However, this pre-brain is simplistic and childish. As quoted by Max Tennyson, it makes Blukic and Driba look like geniuses in comparison.[15][16][17]

A Galvan's small size makes them unsuitable for physical battle, so they must outsmart their enemies in a fight. Animals like dogs and cats can be a problem, as they may see them as a chew toy or food.[18]

Despite possessing immense intelligence, Galvans can still make miscalculations, shown when Grey Matter's attempt to upgrade the Rust Bucket's air conditioner caused it to overheat instead, incapacitating the vehicle.[19] This is not limited to Grey Matter's young age either, as Blukic and Driba routinely made miscalculations throughout their appearances.

Galvans would be vulnerable to being trapped by a member of Omnivoracious's species if they were not extinct.[10]

The Galvan have made many discoveries and created many great technologies found within the universe, such as:

By Albedo

By Blukic and Driba

The name Galvan is a reference to Italian physicist Luigi Galvani, who discovered the electrical impulses of the nervous system by performing experiments on frogs (hence the Galvan's frog-like appearance).

  • Initially, female Galvans had hair while male Galvans did not.[pop-up 4][20] This was partially retconned in the sequels, where female Galvans have tendrils instead.[21]
  • The Galvan have extremely long life-spans, with Azmuth himself already several thousand years old, and expects to live at least another three thousand years.[22]
  • The Galvan were the first species added to the Omnitrix.[DJW 15] However, the DNA sample used for Grey Matter did not come from either Azmuth or Albedo.[DJW 16]
  • The Techadon Weaponmasters don't accept the fact that the Galvan are smarter than them. So, they try everything to make the Galvan look bad.[GT 1][GT 2]
  • The writers' naming convention for Galvan in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien was to use astronomical terms.[DM 2]
  • Primitive Galvan worshipped ancient technological gods, whom Azmuth's Biosuit somewhat resembles.[pop-up 1][2]
  • The Galvan intellect is apparently highly revered as even the former Highbreed Supreme said that the Galvan were "a slightly more intelligent form of pond scum".[23]
  • The Galvan have been involved in Earth's history countless times, including building the pyramids,[24] building the Stonehenge as a prank,[25][26] giving Ascalon to Sir George,[21] causing the Roswell Incident, and protecting Earth from Benevelon's attack before it was incorporated.[27]
  • The Galvan are currently the species that have the most named characters in the show, besides humans.
  • The Galvan admire the Planchaküles' industriousness and skill, but prefer not to hang out with them too much after work.[DJW 17]
  • The idea to name multiple Galvans after creators of the series started after T.J. Collins named Blukic and Driba.[DJW 18]
  • Had Omniverse continued past Season 8, a Galvan colored like a poisonous frog would have appeared as a member of the Negative 10, but not as the group's leader.[DJW 19][DJW 20][DJW 21]
  • In Nega Ben's timeline, soon after the creation of the Omnitrix, the Galvan were wiped out by a rogue Celestialsapien coerced by Maltruant.[DJW 9]
