– Echo Echo while using his sonic attacks. |
Echo Echo is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Sonorosian[1][2] from the planet Sonorosia.[merch 1]
Appearance[]
Echo Echo is a small, white humanoid made of silicon.[3][4] His body is natural; although he strongly resembles a robot, he is neither it nor an animated containment suit.[note 1] One of his most noticeable features is a square appendage resembling an MP3 player behind his back with a port on it, decorated with a 10 symbol and what looks like cassette tapes on his lower legs. The green circle-shaped indents on the back of Echo Echo's hands are sound holes which help him resonate,[MW 1] and the inside of his mouth is also green with lines that give it the appearance of an amplifier. He also wears headphones so he would not be hurt by his own sonic screams.[DM 2] The headphones are attached to the appendage on his back.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Echo Echo wore the original Omnitrix/Ultimatrix symbol on his chest.
In Heroes United, Echo Echo looked mostly the same as before, except his eyes were bigger and his mouth was recolored black.
In Omniverse, Echo Echo's eyes bulge out, he has two black stripes on both of his earplugs, which are more pronounced, his legs are stubby, he now has three toes, and the green circles on his hands are now bigger. He is also shorter and has a circular shape on his stomach and the tapes on his legs are now gone. His head is less round and is wider and the outlines of his mouth and eyes are thicker as well as his wires. He wears the Omnitrix symbol on his forehead.
Powers and Abilities[]
Echo Echo can scream at audible to ultrasonic frequencies capable of shattering steel,[merch 2] redirecting projectiles in mid-flight,[6] blowing up multiple Laser Lances,[7] and even damaging Taydenite at the right frequency.[DJW 5] Echo Echo can also transmit sound waves through speakers, such as cellphones which can be used as a weapon for the person on the other line.[8]
Echo Echo has the ability to create an unknown number of exact duplicates of himself.[merch 3] These clones act so harmoniously that they can finish each other's sentences. Even if entire groups of his clones are destroyed, Echo Echo can survive as long as at least one of him is still intact.[9] Using his self-duplication, Echo Echo can create copies of any object he is holding while making clones.[2][GT 1][note 2]
Echo Echo can use his sonic screams to create a force field, as well as sonic waves.[10]
By combining his sonic screams and his self-duplication, Echo Echo can create a wall of sound, where he and his clones create a gigantic sound wave that can deal massive damage to his opponents and structures.[6][11]
Echo Echo can create an echo chamber, where his clones attack from all directions and keep screaming until the target is knocked out or defeated, as demonstrated in his fights with Helen[12] and Ultimate Kevin.[9]
Echo Echo can levitate in the air.[13][14]
Echo Echo seems to have more strength than his size suggests, as he can carry a power coupling completely on his own,[15] and kick off the trunk door from the Mark 10 with one foot.[9]
With the help of multiple clones, Echo Echo can throw a Plumber Ship about a meter,[16] carry a Murk Gourmand,[17] and hold his own against larger opponents such as the mechanical dragon,[7] a Highbreed,[18] and Ultimate Kevin.[9]
Echo Echo also appears to be rather durable, as he and his clones were able to withstand being thrown against a wall.[7]
Echo Echo is quite agile, as he is capable of jumping exceptionally high.[7][6]
Using his sonic screams, Echo Echo can locate objects and people, giving him the ability of echolocation.[18]
Echo Echo can channel vibrations to enhance his screams, as seen when he touched Kevin, who had absorbed Varsidium that caused him to vibrate when struck by Gwen's mana.[19]
By duplicating before cancelling the transformation before merging back, Echo Echo can clone the Ultimatrix and its user, with the resulting duplicates able to transform into different aliens separately. The copies can then transform back into Echo Echo before remerging into a single copy, returning the user to one single body.[20]
When under the effects of a cold virus, Echo Echo can accidentally unleash sonic sneezes rather than intentional sonic screams.[21]
Weaknesses[]
Echo Echo's sonic screams can easily hurt his teammates' ears.[7][22]
There is a limit to the number of duplicates Echo Echo can make, which depends on the amount of energy he has access to.[DM 1]
Echo Echo is vulnerable to fire, such as that generated by a Methanosian, an Aerophibian's neuroshock blasts, and electricity generated by a Cerebrocrustacean.[9]
Echo Echo can be rendered unconscious if hit by a quill from a member of Argit's species.[6]
Echo Echo can be controlled by a Vladat via their Corrupturas.[DJW 7]
Echo Echo can be immobilized by a Necrofriggian's ice breath.[9]
Echo Echo can be affected by the cold virus.[21]

Etymology[]
An echo is the reflection of a sound that arrives at a listener with a delay after the direct sound, referencing Echo Echo's audio-kinetic powers. The repetition of the word "echo" in his name references both the nature of an echo and his self-duplication power.
Trivia[]
- Like Rath and Atomix, Echo Echo gives names to his attacks and moves. The names of the attacks are notably less hammy than the former two. This trait is shared with Ultimate Echo Echo.
- In FusionFall, there is a fusion of Echo Echo that, when defeated, releases Red Knight sets.
- Duncan Rouleau once stated that Blitzwolfer's sonic howls are more powerful than Echo Echo's sonic screams.[DR 1] He later did not recall making the original statement, elaborating that the answer to the question depends on what the story needs.[DR 2]
- If Ben were to use Echo Echo with Skurd attached to the Omnitrix, Echo Echo's clones would have to remain huddled to use Skurd's power.[DJW 8]
- Echo Echo's singing sounds like auto-tune, though he is really good at dubstep.[DJW 9]
- Dee Bradley Baker did Echo Echo's voice by talking while inhaling and squinching his upper throat shut.[DBB 1][DBB 2]
- Echo Echo was originally named Echo.[GM 1]
- Echo Echo originally had the ability to extend his neck and arms in the pre-production stage of Alien Force.[GM 1]
- Echo Echo had concept art drawn by Eric Canete[EC 1] and Glen Murakami, with his final design created by Glen, with color styling by Chris Hooten.[GW 1]
- Echo Echo's design was approved rather quickly.[EC 1]
- Echo Echo's design was based on an Apple iPod.[GW 1]
- Echo Echo was supposed to retain the Omnitrix symbol on his chest in the pre-production stage of Omniverse.[DJW 10]
- Had Negative Echo Echo appeared in Omniverse, he would have been either a red recolor of Echo Echo's appearance in said series or at least have some red markings.[DJW 11]
- Derrick eventually drew a version of Negative Echo Echo in the Omniverse art style in 2020.[DJW 12]
- Echo Echo is similar in some ways to Echoes, the Stand of Koichi Hirose in Part 4 of the manga and anime series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
- Both Echo Echo and Echoes ACT 3 are short, white humanoids with green as a secondary color.
- Echoes (specifically ACT 1 and ACT 2) and Echo Echo are able to unleash powerful sound attacks from multiple angles simultaneously (Echo Echo via his duplication, and Echoes through writing onomatopoeia on surfaces).
- Echo Echo was Dwayne McDuffie's favorite Omnitrix alien.[DM 3]
- Derrick preferred Echo Echo to Ultimate Echo Echo.[DJW 13]
- When asked if Echo Echo could levitate, Derrick considered it a mistake with his powers.[DJW 14]
Notes[]
- ↑ A fan once asked Dwayne McDuffie if Echo Echo was either a robot or some kind of living containment suit, and then shared a theory that Echo Echo's being is actually living sound waves for a containment suit to hold; Dwayne responded on September 22, 2008 by saying "Echo [Echo] is a member of a race that just looks like that".[DM 1] Later, Derrick J. Wyatt would claim multiple times that Echo Echo was in fact a containment suit housing living sound waves while answering fan questions,[DJW 1][DJW 2] while specifying that he did not come up with the concept,[DJW 3] and got it from Dwayne McDuffie.[DJW 4] Due to the contradictions between Dwayne and Derrick, Echo Echo is no longer considered by the wiki to have a containment suit.[5]
- ↑ According to Derrick J. Wyatt, Echo Echo's object duplication was due to a glitch in the original Ultimatrix. This ability was removed from Echo Echo's DNA when Ben acquired the new Omnitrix in The Ultimate Enemy: Part 2.[DJW 6] However, it is unknown if this is canon as Matt Wayne seemed to be unaware of the existence of glitch powers.[MW 2]
