“ | "There is Animo, and a.. large albino gorilla." "Actually, that's also Animo. I fought him way back.. umm.. in the future." |
” |
Dr. Aloysius James Animo[note 1] is a mad scientist obsessed with genetic experiments on animals.
Appearance[]
Animo has his head held in a dome of water and attached to the body of an albino gorilla with white fur, purple skin, and giant claws on his feet. He retains his younger counterpart's pale green skin and white hair.
In Ben 10,000, he has black eyes, with one of them being big with a scar running down it. When detached from his body, Animo's head has tentacles attached to the bottom of the dome.
In Omniverse, Animo acquired some of his younger counterpart's features along with some new ones, his brain is exposed in a smaller dome, he has red eyes (one of which is mechanical), he has golden metallic legs attached to the bottom of the dome and two antennae poking out from the dome, he has bolts embedded throughout his body, three on each arm and two on each side of his pelvis, and a backbone-type tube on his back.
Personality[]
“ | I see you brought help! You're going to NEED it! For every one of your ten thousand heroes, I'll steal enough DNA to create TEN THOUSAND MONSTROUS MINIONS! | ” |
– Dr. Animo to Ben 10,000.[5] |
Animo's personality hasn't changed much over the years, as he is just as egomaniacal as his younger self. He doesn't talk to stuffed animals as he did in the past.[3]
Animo has a tendency to incessantly argue with his past self, even blaming him for the circumstances that reduced him to being a head in a jar. Furthermore, the trauma of losing his body has affected him somewhat.[3]
Overall, Animo is still considered a power-hungry madman. However, he does seem to possess some semblance of humanity, as when he learned of Max's retirement, he seemed genuinely saddened and remarked that it "won't be the same without [him]", though this is questionable, as later, upon being freed by Subdora, he didn't hesitate to attack him in an attempt to make his retirement "permanent".[4]
History[]
Background[]
Animo accidentally destroyed his body trying to recreate the Kevin 11 mutation, leaving only his head undamaged.[pop-up 1][5]
Ben 10[]
In Ben 10,000, Animo revived Vilgax using the Transmogrifier to defeat Ben 10,000 and his younger counterpart. When Animo was defeated by Gwendolyn and her younger self Gwen, he was taken into custody.
Omniverse[]
In The End of an Era, Animo broke into Ben_10,000 Tower and used his Chronoporter to travel back in time.
In Animo Crackers, Animo met the present Animo and worked with him to defeat Ben. He revealed that the loss of his original body had been a traumatic experience, and it was due to his past self's mistake. He told his past self that they had to get the A.R.C. Project, so they could create an army of mutants together. However, they were defeated by Gutrot, after Animo accidentally told him how to use his powers. He was recaptured after being given memory loss and taken back to the future by Spanner.
After being brought back by Spanner, Animo was escorted to Plumber Headquarters. When he heard Max was retiring, Animo remarked that the place wouldn't be the same without him. Later, Subdora opened his cell door as a distraction, and he attacked Max. After a short battle, Max managed to remove Animo's jar from his gorilla body. Animo lamented that he needs to reinforce his neck bolts and was once again put back to his cell.
Powers and Abilities[]
Animo retains his younger counterpart's enhanced intelligence. For example, he was able to program Ben's aliens' moves into Vilgax's DNA.
Animo's gorilla body grants him enhanced strength, allowing him to hold his own when wrestling Four Arms and break out of Diamondhead's crystal enclosure. He is strong enough to cause chunks of the ground to fly off by smashing it.[3]
Animo is durable enough to withstand an assault from an adult Tetramand.
Animo can jump high in the air.[3]
Animo can crawl on walls and ceilings.[4]
Animo can generate knockout gas from the vent on his chest.
Animo can detach his head from his body.
Equipment[]
Animo has a Transmogrifier attached to the dome covering his head, allowing him to reanimate deceased beings, as he demonstrated on Vilgax.
Animo's head is surrounded by a protective dome, making him immune to Gutrot's gas attacks if the vent on his chest is closed.[3]
Animo's Transmogrifier can send out a pulse to instantly mutate animals in his vicinity, as shown with the copy he provided his past self.[3]
Animo has several canisters on each arm, storing animals in stasis, which can be ejected for use, mutating the animals in the process.[4]
Animo owns a Holo-Viewer.[3]
Weaknesses[]
Animo is vulnerable to electricity, as shown when he was shocked by Ken using the blasters of his Chrono Spanner suit.[3]
Animo's head can be separated from his body if it is not reinforced properly. This can leave him very vulnerable and a lot easier to trap.[4]
Though the dome surrounding his head affords him some protection, it is not indestructible and will crack with enough force. Damaging the dome will make him susceptible to gas attacks.[3]
Like his past self, Animo's arrogance and over-confidence still continues to be his downfall. His periodic bouts of forgetfulness can make him overlook certain details.[3]
