That's not going to work. I'm a conductor!

– Chromastone to a zombified Lucy.[3]

Chromastone (alternatively spelled as ChromaStone)[credits 1] is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Crystalsapien[Bandai 1] from the planet Petropia.[4][1]

Appearance[]

Chromastone is a humanoid silicon-based[5] alien made of extremely durable crystal. His body is overall indigo, with several dark lines and spots. His hands and face are magenta, and he also sports six magenta shards on his back, two on his chest, and one on the top of his head that resembles a horn. His face consists of a mouth and one large green eye at the center.

In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Chromastone wore the original Omnitrix/Ultimatrix on his chest.

In Heroes United, Chromastone had green teeth and some of his dark lines were missing.

In Omniverse, Chromastone has two unique designs. The first, which appears in Trouble Helix, looked mostly the same as in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien except that the crystals on his back and head were much longer. Much like before, the Omnitrix symbol is on his chest.

The second design, which appeared in A New Dawn, is drastically different. He has three additional crystal shards on each shoulder and arm, one on each knee, and two on the sides of his head. The crystals on his chest and the four small shards on his back are gone. His neck is now longer, his face has a magenta chin that resembles a mouth guard, and he now speaks without moving his mouth at all. He has black rock hands with five magenta crystalline fingers. He now wears a green jumpsuit with white stripes on the waist, green-and-white striped gauntlets on his wrists and legs, and the Omnitrix symbol has been relocated to his right pectoral.

Powers and Abilities[]

Lasers call for Chromastone!

– Ben before his failed attempt to turn into Chromastone.[6]

Chromastone has the ability to produce rainbow-colored energy from inside his body. He can then expel it out as powerful beams from either his hands,[7] the shards on his body,[8] or his eye,[2] but only to a limited extent, as he will eventually run out of energy until he absorbs more.[9] Chromastone's beams are powerful enough to melt through a truck trailer[5] and destroy an entire turret.[10] Chromastone also has dynakinesis, allowing him to control the direction of his energy with extreme precision, as shown when he created a ring of energy that formed into several small scattering beams.[10] Chromastone can also use his energy to corrupt and manipulate external sources of energy, such as manna; as seen when he dissipated a bubble of manna that Gwen had generated around him.[11]

Chromastone has the ability to allow nearly any kind of energy, including lasers; electricity; manna;[2][9] and any type of electromagnetic radiation,[AF Mini Bible 1][MW 1] from ultraviolet light to cosmic rays,[Bandai 1][AF VG 1] to collect within or phase through his body without harm; which he can then convert into his rainbow energy. Absorbing external energy will supercharge Chromastone's beams, making them more powerful depending on what was absorbed. For instance, when the Dragon attacked him with its powerful energy blast, he absorbed it and subdued the Dragon with an equally powerful wave of energy.[12] Similarly, when Gwen gave Chromastone a large amount of manna for him to absorb, he was able to shoot powerful energy blasts to damage Dagon.[9]

Chromastone is able to redirect energy attacks instead of absorbing them.[13]

As well as being resistant to electricity, Chromastone can also conduct it back at the attacker, as seen when Lucy attacked him with an electric cable.[3]

Chromastone is capable of instant levitation[9] and flight.[14] While flying, he can leave behind an energy trail in the air.[15]

Chromastone possesses enhanced strength, allowing him to overpower strong opponents, such as a Techadon-enhanced Cash, with his bare hands.[13] Technically speaking, he is physically stronger than Methanosians, but weaker than Vaxasaurians.[DM 3]

Chromastone possesses enhanced durability thanks to his very dense and crystalline skin,[Bandai 2] which allows him to withstand being thrown against several vehicles at once.[13]

Chromastone is capable of jumping exceptionally high.[16][2] He is also quite agile and fast.[17]

Chromastone can survive in the vacuum of space, as demonstrated by Sugilite when he was traveling to what was left of Petropia.[1]

Due to him being made of super dense silicon-based crystals, Chromastone is immune to possession from a Xenocite.[5]

Chromastone is resistant to intense heat, as seen when Chromastone resisted the Dragon's energy breath.[12]

Chromastone has the power to generate focused gamma rays.[AF Mini Bible 1][AF VG 1]

Chromastone can project a beam of light from his hands for illumination purposes.[5]

Chromastone can use his energy to increase the temperature of his body, to the point where he can become hot enough to dissolve an Arachnachimp's webs.[17]

If a big enough light source were to shine through him, Chromastone can create a big, beautiful rainbow in the sky.[DJW 1]

Non-Canon Powers and Abilities[]

Cartoon Network Action Packs[]

Chromastone can absorb temporal energy.[AP 1]

DC & Cartoon Network[]

Chromastone can trap enemies in force fields that last even after he's changed forms.[DC & CN 1]

Vilgax Attacks[]

Chromastone can create force fields to protect himself from attacks.

Weaknesses[]

Chromastone is incapable of absorbing certain types of energy, such as the energy of the extradimensional field that protects the Contumelia from the Annihilarrgh.[7]

Chromastone has a limit to how much energy he can absorb at once, as he once tried to absorb all the manna from the Sorcerer's Engine but was overwhelmed to the point of disintegration.[15] Chromastone also can have trouble absorbing and conducting electricity if the rate is too high.[script 1][18]

In addition to Chromastone having a limit to how much he can absorb, he also cannot absorb the energy released by an Annihilarrgh because he would be instantly disintegrated if he tried.[DJW 2]

Chromastone can be controlled by Vladats via their Corrupturas.[DJW 3]

Video Games[]

Ben 10: Alien Force[]

Chromastone is a playable alien character in the Nintendo DS version of the game.

Chromastone is initially unavailable but is unlocked at the beginning of the Cave 3-1 level.

Chromastone is able to shoot energy beams of varying intensity and width, as well as unleash an omnidirectional blast of energy which stuns all enemies.

Chromastone is not required to be used at all in order to complete the game.

Ben 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks[]

Chromastone is a playable alien character in the game.

Chromastone is capable of manipulating the energy into bolts, rather than beams, as well as generating an energy blast expanding out in a 360-degree radius, creating an energy shield, and wielding energy fists.

Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable Versions[]

Due to the Omnitrix rebooting after Ben's abuse of the quick-change feature during his battle with an animated Mr. Smoothy mascot, Chromastone was temporarily locked until Ben's arrival on MorOtesi.

Chromastone is able to channel energy beams to power lifts for transportation and machinery to access locked areas.

Similar to Brainstorm, Chromastone's unique block animation summons a shield made out of energy that renders him impervious to energy attacks.

Prismatic Explosion is an unlockable combo move for Chromastone.

Chromastone is vital for progression on the MorOtesi level of the game.

Chromastone was erroneously designed with four magenta shards on his back when there is supposed to be six of them.

Nintendo DS Version[]

Chromastone and Echo Echo are reunlocked upon Ben's arrival on MorOtesi.

Chromastone is able to safely bypass the radioactive meteors that litter MorOtesi's landscape.

Ben 10 Alien Force: The Rise of Hex[]

Chromastone is a playable alien character in the game.

Due to the Omnitrix shorting out after Ben fiddled with it, Chromastone was temporarily locked until the beginning of Level 8.

Chromastone is able to absorb energy from a solar cell and store it inside him, transferring it to other cells in order to open sealed gates or to activate moving platforms. Chromastone can retain this stored energy even if he reverts back to human form and/or he switches to other alien forms.

Chromastone's hard crystalline body makes him immune to physical attacks. Whenever he is hit, his Omnitrix Energy meter instead of his health meter will be depleted.

Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction[]

Chromastone briefly appears as a hologram in the game but is not playable.

Etymology[]

Chromastone's name is a combination of the words "chroma" and "stone".

Chroma means purity or intensity of color, noting the intensity of the color in Chromastone's rays and stone. Stone is the nonmetallic mineral that a rock is made of, referencing his appearance.

Trivia[]

  • Chromastone and Sugilite are the only Crystalsapiens in existence.[DM 1]
  • Chromastone has more abilities than the ones Ben is aware of.[4][1] However, they are largely unexplored.
  • Chromastone's reformation into Diamondhead in Vengeance of Vilgax: Part 2 had nothing to do with Vilgax's sword being covered in crystal before he destroyed him.[DM 4]
    • Ben does not know the explanation behind Chromastone merging with Diamondhead, but Azmuth does.[DM 5]
  • Despite being destroyed in Vengeance of Vilgax: Part 2, Chromastone's hologram appeared in The Secret of Chromastone. However, selecting it transformed Ben into Diamondhead.[1]
  • Chromastone is one of the four regular aliens to get a complete redesign in Omniverse; the others being Shocksquatch, Eatle, and Swampfire.
    • Chromastone and Swampfire are the only two of these aliens to get redesigns mid-series (not counting Rath getting clothes).
  • Chromastone is one of the five aliens who escaped from the original Omnitrix; the others being Ghostfreak, Goop, Way Big, and Spidermonkey.
    • Chromastone is also one of four regular aliens to be temporarily destroyed and removed from the original Omnitrix/Ultimatrix, the others being Way Big, Swampfire, and Feedback.
  • Chromastone is the final alien used on-screen in Ultimate Alien. Coincidentally, his hologram is also the first one shown on the reconfigured Omnitrix in Alien Force.[19]
    • Chromastone is also the last alien to be used by Ben via the Ultimatrix.[9]
  • Chromastone's working name was Shard.[HG Bible 1]
  • Chromastone had concept art drawn by Glenn Wong and Eric Canete,[EC 1] whereas his final design was created by Chap Yaep, with color styling by Chris Hooten.[GW 1]
    • Glen Murakami gave Glenn Wong and Chap Yaep the DK eyewitness book on crystals to look at for inspiration.[GW 1]
  • Chromastone was initially not in Inside Man.[outline 1]
  • Chromastone was initially not meant to be destroyed during Season 2 of Alien Force. He was included in a few early script outlines for episodes, such as:
  • Chromastone only appeared in two episodes of Omniverse because he didn't come up during story meetings,[DJW 4][DJW 5] did not have a proper redesign until A New Dawn,[DJW 6] and had low toy sales during the previous shows' runs.[DJW 7]
  • Chromastone's design in A New Dawn is inspired by Gundam.[DJW 8]

Notes[]

  1. Initially, it was previously stated that Crystalsapiens come from MorOtesi.[Bandai 1] This is retconned later during the show in two ways:
    • Firstly, Sugilite is revealed to be the only Crystalsapien in existence (aside from Chromastone).[1][DM 1]
    • Secondly, Sugilite is stated to come from Petropia whereas MorOtesi itself is revealed to be merely a legend.[1][DM 2][BTP 1]
