Chimera Sui Generi, also known as Vilgaxians, are a species from the planet Vilgaxia.

Appearance

In the Original Series, Chimera Sui Generis are tall, pale-green humanoid aliens with tentacles sprouting from their heads, broad shoulders and hips, narrow waists, as well as red circulatory system visible through their torsos and limbs. Their faces have beady, angled blood-red eyes, black lips covering their crooked flat teeth, yellow spots, no neck, and a breathing pillow-shaped sac filled with lime-green fluid that connects to their mouth. Hands have four fingers, while feet have two claws curved inwards. They dress in a tight, metallic armor that resembles a shell of a crustacean.

Female Chimera Sui Generis have a dark mole below their mouth, longer eyes, three tentacles upfront and three at the back, and their fingers are thinner and longer. Males have about six tentacles on the front and six rear-wise.

In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, they are more humanoid and lack red veins across their body, instead having a musculature shaped to resemble a mass of tentacles wrapped around to form arms. They have larger minty-green eyes (not counting Vilgax and Myaxx), darker skin without spots, flesh-colored lips, straight flat teeth, longer neck and lack a breathing sac at the back of their head. Their fingers are thicker and shaped like claws curved inwards.

Males have three tentacles upfront and wear sleeveless uniforms covering their bodies up to the neck, with normal boots. Females lack moles and have breasts, their tentacles can either grow from scalps or chins, and civilians adorn robes. Some individuals like Myaxx can have black spots on their heads. Children have larger eyes and proportionally larger heads. Citizens of Vilgaxia are all dressed in uniforms consisting of purple, violet, black and bluish-grey.

In Omniverse, male Chimera Sui Generis have tentacles sprouting from their heads, with one pair at the front being longer than the rest and having triangular tips. Their skin is darker with greenish-cyan spots. Natural individuals like Vilgax in And Then There Was Ben have broad shoulders, red veins, black lips pointing downward and connected to a sac behind their head, crooked teeth, regular fingers and two toe claws curved inwards.

Female Chimera Sui Generis have tentacles growing from their scalp, lack spots or a sac at the back of their head, and they have short black eyebrows and feminine lips. They have breasts, red veins, broad shoulders and wear boots.

Chimera Sui Generi possess enhanced strength, as an augment-free Vilgax was able to kick XLR8 quite far into a tree.

Chimera Sui Generi possess an immense level of durability, as an augment-free Vilgax was able to survive a nuclear explosion at point-blank range (though it is unclear how injured he was).

Chimera Sui Generi possess enhanced reflexes, as a Vilgax without cybernetic enhancements was able to easily dodge a shot from Max's Electric Cannon.

Etymology

The name "Chimera Sui Generis" comes from "Chimera", a mythical beast with parts from many different animals, and "Sui Generis", a Latin term that means "of its own kind/genus" or unique in its characteristics which roughly translates to "Chimera of its own kind".

Trivia

• The Chimera Sui Generi were the first species to be introduced in the Classic Continuity and in the franchise.
• Two facts about the Chimera Sui Generi are retconned in Ghost Town from what was originally established:
  • All female Chimera Sui Generi had a dark "beauty mark" somewhere on their center face tentacle, but none of the females seen in the episode have them.
  • Most Chimera Sui Generi were trained from birth for combat and craved any chance for it, but in the episode, Vilgax stated that most of them were innocent people.
• In the Ultimate Alien Future Timeline, Chimera Sui Generi are known to have invaded Earth three times prior to Ben 10,000 Returns. The third known invasion was defeated by Ben 10,000 during his term as President of Earth.
• The prototype Omnitrix and Ultimatrix did not contain Vilgax's DNA.
  • Interestingly:
    • The existence of a Chimera Sui Generi transformation was first alluded to by Dwayne McDuffie, who stated that the Omnitrix's Chimera Sui Generis DNA does not come from Myaxx.
    • In Benwolf, Ben (as Blitzwolfer) said that if he had known about the DNA scan feature before his encounter with the Werewolf, he would have unlocked a Chimera Sui Generis transformation by getting Vilgax to touch the Omnitrix.
    • In Omniverse, it is likely that the current Omnitrix may have access to a Chimera Sui Generis transformation because the scanning feature was never activated in Vilgax's presence, despite doing so while being in the same general vicinity of Lord Transyl.
    • The out-of-universe reason this transformation was never used nor seen on-screen is because there were never any plans for Ben to have a Chimera Sui Generis transformation.
