At Chichen Itza, the Quetzalcoatl created by Dr. Animo is moved into a large vehicle. Ben and Gwen admire the work they've done, though Ben is concerned about how close the situation was. Behind them, the Omni-Copter breaks down, and Max exits it, saddened at the destruction of his helicopter, though he says Phil can fix it. Mary Jo Fourfeathers arrives on the scene, and tells them they'll be transporting the Quetzalcoatl to a nature preserve. Ben offers to come with her, since he believes his inability to control his aliens led to the Omni-Copter's current state, to Gwen's confusion.
LaGrange watches TV
Soon, they depart Chichen Itza, with Max and Gwen in the Rustbucket while Ben rides with Mary Jo and another ranger. After Mary Jo explains how the vehicle works to Ben, a bird seed-addicted Max checks in with them over the radio. A news team is shown covering the story, which is watched by LaGrange in his apartment. Owing rent and recognizing Ben, LaGrange decides to steal the cargo. Back in the Yucatan jungle, the Tennysons are met by LaGrange in his car. He continually drives in front of the truck, but eventually starts trying to break into the back with lasers. Ben struggles to pick the right alien for the job, so Max and Gwen ram his car with the Rustbucket. Ben snaps out of it and transforms into XLR8. He tries to catch LaGrange, but is caught off-guard by his acrobatics and punched aside. He nearly catches up, but times out, and is nabbed by Gwen as they continue to pursue LaGrange.
Ben decides to use Heatblast in tandem with Glitch to stop him. He catches up to him, but LaGrange abandons his car, leaping onto the truck, and it collides with Glitch, exploding. A fire quickly starts to spread, and Max pulls over, leaping into action with an extinguisher. Ben (and Glitch) revert back, as LaGrange makes his way into the truck. He hijacks the vehicle, much to Ben's ire. Max gets an idea, and in the Rustbucket, he starts radioing LaGrange. Using trucker lingo, he confuses LaGrange and tricks him into driving towards a bridge. Glitch takes a shortcut, catching up to the truck, but he tells Ben he must do something as his chassis is too damaged. Max gives encouraging words, and Ben transforms into Omni-Kix Cannonbolt. The Quetzalcoatl, meanwhile, wakes up from the bumpy ride.
The freed Quetzalcoatl
Omni-Kix Cannonbolt bounds onto the back of the truck, and Mary Jo tells him to break the Quetzalcoatl free. Using his armor, he busts open the truck, and the Quetzalcoatl bursts out. It scares LaGrange, and rescues Mary Jo and the ranger, as the truck careens off of the bridge and into a river. Glitch and the Rustbucket make their way onto the bridge, but it is unable to support their weight. Omni-Kix Cannonbolt times out, and the two vehicles (along with Ben) get off the bridge before it collapses. At the nature preserve, the four celebrate their win, and Max is happy that at least the Rustbucket is okay. Suddenly, the Quetzalcoatl lands on the vehicle, denting its roof. It then flies off into the jungle.

This episode's title and basic premise is a reference to the 1953 thriller The Wages of Fear and the original 1950 novel of the same name by Georges Arnaud that it was adapted from.
Much like the main characters of the film, LaGrange is a down-on-his-luck European man.
Much like how the main characters are hired to transport nitroglycerin in trucks, Team Tennyson transports the Quetzalcoatl in a truck.
When Ben turns back from Heatblast while in Glitch's vehicle mode, he mentions the phrase "This is fine" while giving a deadpan expression and surrounded by fire. This is a reference to the web comic by K.C. Green titled "The Pills Are Working" or "On Fire", where a dog surrounded by fire sits at a table before saying "This is fine. I'm OK with the events that are unfolding around me," whereupon he gruesomely melts. The first two panels of the comic became a popular internet meme.
