– Cannonbolt's first pun.[1] |
Cannonbolt is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of an Arburian Pelarota[2][1] from the destroyed planet Arburia.[note 1]
Appearance[]
Ben as Cannonbolt[]
Cannonbolt is a hulking, broad-shouldered alien covered in natural, yellow exo-plates[AF Mini Bible 1] on his back, shoulders, and the backs of his arms. He is mostly white with black on his upper half and has four claws on both of his hands, having a color scheme and claws similar to that of a panda. Cannonbolt is covered in fur across the thickest parts of his body, while every other part except for his elbows and knees is short fur.[DR 1]
When Cannonbolt turns into a sphere, he rolls up into a ball, with his backplates and the plates on his hands covering him. His sphere form has semi-circular stripes across his body, with black lines around the circular plates, and his side plates are the plates on his shoulders. It is described as a position similar to a roly poly.[5][6]
In the Original Series, Cannonbolt had sharp teeth, yellow eyes, and wore the original Omnitrix symbol on his forehead.
In Game Over, while inside Sumo Slammers Smackdown, he wore black underwear with a brown outline and had a ponytail.
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Cannonbolt's teeth became fuller and human-like, the black stripe on his chest was gone, his eyes were recolored green, and he wore the original Omnitrix/Ultimatrix symbol on his chest.
In Heroes United, Cannonbolt looks exactly the same as his Alien Force/Ultimate Alien design, but his colors were altered to fit Generator Rex's art style.
In Omniverse, Cannonbolt regains his black stripe from the Original Series, which now goes down to his belly/chest. His eyes are no longer connected to his shoulders, his palms are now flat instead of bulging, the yellow bolts on his body are now hexagonal and there are three plates on his back instead of two. Depending on the episode, Cannonbolt's teeth is either dull or sharp like his previous series' designs.
16-year-old Cannonbolt wears the Omnitrix symbol on his chest, while 11-year-old Cannonbolt wears the original Omnitrix symbol (which has been recolored green) on his forehead to reflect his original appearance.
Ben 10,000 as Cannonbolt[]
Ben 10,000's Cannonbolt looked similar to his 10-year-old self, but with a different color scheme for the legs, which sported a black pants-like design. His claws were longer and outlined in grey, his eyes were closer to his shoulder armor, and the Omnitrix symbol was higher up, being on the top of his head rather than his forehead.
Gwen 10 as Cannonbolt[]
Gwen 10 as Cannonbolt looks similar to Rollaway, albeit the markings on her eyes are upturned, similar to eyeliner. She has feminine lips, freckles, a hair clip on her left side, pink eyes, and a cat symbol-shaped Omnitrix on her chest. Her skin is light blue, while her bolts and lips are dark blue. She has black markings on her torso and pelvis in a similar design to a bikini. Her bolts are also smaller than Ben's Cannonbolt and Rollaway.
When curled into her shell, Cannonbolt looks just like Rollaway in his shell.
Powers and Abilities[]
“ | "You're like a bowling ball!" "More like a cannonball!" |
” |
Cannonbolt can curl into a ball, encasing himself in his plating. In general, the Arburian Pelarota species mostly used this maneuver for defense, like an armadillo. However, since Ben did not know about this when discovering Cannonbolt, he weaponized Cannonbolt's originally defensive capabilities. Cannonbolt is nigh-invulnerable when curled into a ball.[DJW 1]
When rolled up, Cannonbolt becomes like a motorized wheel that can move at great speed (because of chemicals in his exo-plates that reduce friction)[pop-up 3][7] and can increase his rotational momentum to slam into and/or run over enemies. Cannonbolt is able to maneuver around his surroundings in ball form thanks to the short fur on his body, registering shifts in air and motion around him. Between that and his excellent hearing, Cannonbolt receives something akin to echolocation - giving him "eyeless" vision.[DR 2][DR 3]
Cannonbolt can ricochet and bounce off surfaces like a pinball in sphere form, suffering little-to-no loss in momentum.[1] Cannonbolt can also house people and fairly large objects within his spheroid form and provide them the same level of protection that he has.[8]
Cannonbolt's shell can deflect lasers[1] and conduct electricity, such as that generated by a Gimlinopithecus.[9]
Cannonbolt possesses enhanced strength, being able to fight on par with enemies about his size.[10] He can also break free from traps made of Lepidopterran slime.[11] Cannonbolt also has enhanced reflexes, being able to quickly dodge most attacks.[12]
Cannonbolt possesses enhanced digging, as seen when he quickly tunneled underground in his sphere form before jumping out to attack future Vilgax.[13]
Cannonbolt is capable of withstanding the vacuum of space, but he still needs to breathe. Without an oxygen supply, Cannonbolt is limited to holding his breath.[14]
From inside his shell, Cannonbolt can withstand twice the heat of reentry into the Earth's atmosphere.[pop-up 4][8] Similarly, his shell is resistant to acids and lava,[3][DVD 1] as well as cold temperatures of places such as Mikd'lty,[15] and can withstand the plasma generated by members of Ball Weevil's species.[DJW 2]
Cannonbolt can be empowered by electricity, such as those generated by a Gimlinopithecus. This way, he can gain much more power and momentum when in sphere form.[9]
Weaknesses[]
Cannonbolt's bipedal form is top-heavy, making him very unbalanced and clumsy. This is because Arburian Pelarotas are made to spin, not walk.[pop-up 5][7]
Cannonbolt cannot roll over slippery surfaces, such as a Gourmand's slime spit, as it will cause him to immediately uncurl from his sphere form and fall over.[16]
Cannonbolt can be trapped by strong adhesives, such as those used by the Stalker.[17] Similarly, he can be held in place by beings with as much strength as a Chimera Sui Generis.[13]
Cannonbolt's large body makes it hard for him to move in small spaces, such as in vehicles like the Proto-TRUK.[14]
Cannonbolt can be incapacitated by electricity when not curled into a ball, such as that generated by a Transylian.[18] Similarly, Cannonbolt can be burned by extremely hot objects when not curled into a ball.[19]
In his uncurled form, Cannonbolt can be controlled by a Vladat via their Corrupturas.[DJW 3]

Video Games[]
Ben 10: Protector of Earth[]
Cannonbolt is a playable alien in the game.
He has the Dark Heroes and the DNA Force skin. Cannonbolt is needed for defeating Snap Dragon.
Cannonbolt can curl into a ball to encase himself in his plating, turning into a sphere. He can then use this form to roll into enemies to attack. In addition to the average repelling of walls, he was capable of ricocheting off enemies as well.
By compressing himself tightly, Cannonbolt can release the pressure to create a sonic blast.
Cannonbolt can flop onto the ground to create a shockwave, as well as rotate quickly to generate a miniature tornado.
Ben 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks[]
Cannonbolt is a playable alien in the game, replacing Alien X in the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable versions of the game. However, Cannonbolt is replaced by Murk Upchuck in the Nintendo DS version of the game.
Due to the Omnitrix rebooting after Ben's abuse of the quick-change feature during his battle with an animated Mr. Smoothy mascot, Cannonbolt, along with Swampfire, Big Chill, Spidermonkey, and Humungousaur were the only aliens available on Ben's arsenal upon his arrival on Vulpin.
Cannonbolt can curl into a ball, encasing himself in his plating. Cannonbolt is able to launch himself from ramps located all over the alien worlds to cross long gaps, as well as insert himself in special slots and use his rotation to power or destroy machinery and reveal hidden structures.
Superball is an unlockable combo move for Cannonbolt.
Cannonbolt is vital for progression on the Vulpin, Terradino, Encephalonus IV, Anur Phaetos, MorOtesi, and Null Void levels of the game.
Punch Time Explosion XL[]
He is one of the aliens used by 10-year-old Ben. His design is very similar to his appearance in Vilgax Attacks, despite being used by Young Ben.
Ben 10: Omniverse[]
Cannonbolt is a playable alien in the game (by both 11-year-old and 16-year-old Ben).
Ben 10: Omniverse 2[]
Cannonbolt is a playable alien in the game.

Trivia[]
- Cannonbolt was the first additional alien to be unlocked in the Omnitrix. He was also the only alien to be manually (and accidentally) unlocked by Gwen.
- Cannonbolt was also the first additional alien Ben transformed into in Alien Force.
- After Season 2 of the Original Series, when Zs'Skayr successfully escapes the Omnitrix and thus removing Ghostfreak from it, Cannonbolt replaces the latter in the intro for the third and fourth seasons.
- Cannonbolt is one of the five aliens who have appeared in all series in the Classic Continuity; the other four are Upchuck, Diamondhead, Way Big, and Ghostfreak.
- Currently, Cannonbolt, Diamondhead, and Way Big are the only three of these aliens to have appeared in all series of the franchise.
- Cannonbolt was originally planned to be one of the playable aliens in the Game Creator but was soon removed from the game entirely when Alien Force aired.
- However, he was eventually brought back for the Omniverse version of the game.
- Dave Johnson did the initial concepts for Cannonbolt, which had knobs that activated rocket blasts to bounce around and later became Vilgax's Mechadroids, while the final design was made by Thomas Perkins.[TP 1][DJ 1]
- Cannonbolt was initially meant to be one of the original 10 aliens, but ended up being replaced with Diamondhead.[pop-up 6]
- Cannonbolt is erroneously referred to as a Vulpinic Tortugan (rather than an Arburian Pelarota) on the back of his animation disc released alongside his basic action figure in the Original Series toyline. This was corrected for future merchandise.
Notes[]
- ↑ The "Arburia" name comes from "Arburian Pelarota", the name of Cannonbolt's species. However, the original name for the planet as revealed in the pop-up trivia for the Original Series episode Benwolf, Ben 10: Secret of the Omnitrix and Cannonbolt's Bandai card was "Aruburia".[pop-up 1][3][pop-up 2][4][Bandai 1] The page was created as "Arburia" by an anonymous user on September 16, 2009 with no source. The page was later renamed to "Aruburia" on April 4, 2011 by Ultimatehero, who cited the Bandai card. However, Orion Invictus would rename the page back to "Arburia" on October 14, 2011 with no source. The spelling stuck ever since. The Arburia spelling was later used in Cannonbolt's bio in the DS and 3DS versions of the Ben 10: Omniverse video game,[OV VG 1] which was released in 2012, marking the first official use of the spelling. It would again be used for Cannonbolt's bio on the Omniverse Aliens at War DVD[DVD 1] which was released in 2013. The term was then used in the Cannonbolt AW1: Beach Ballers short, which takes place in the Reboot Continuity. As the name of the planet was never mentioned in the Classic Continuity, the spelling of this planet is dubious.[BTP 1]
