It is important to add citations for statements. If you are unsure if a particular statement needs a citation, you may ask an admin for a second opinion.

  • For primary sources (e.g. in-series content, such as characters and episodes), add "<ref>link to the source</ref>" tags next to where the citation is made.
    • If a primary source is cited multiple times, add "<ref name="ABC">link to the source</ref>" in the first instance and "<ref name="ABC"/>" in all following instances, where "ABC" is an arbitrary (hidden) name for the reference, typically an abbreviation of the episode/movie title.
    • To cite files (such as screenshots from episodes) from primary sources, add "<ref>link to the file</ref>" with the full episode name mentioned in the file name.
  • For secondary sources, add "{{Refn|link to the source|group = "XYZ"}}", where "XYZ" is chosen as per the table below.
    • If a secondary source is cited multiple times, add "{{Refn|link to the source|group = "XYZ"|name = "ABC"}}" in the first instance and "{{Refn|group = "XYZ"|name = "ABC"}}" in all following instances, where "ABC" is an arbitrary (hidden) name for the reference.
  • If a statement is supported by primary and secondary types of sources, primary sources should take precedence while citing.
  • If a single reference spans multiple file attachments, it is preferable that the files are merged and re-uploaded as a single file. In a situation where this cannot be done, the files should be referred to in a single citation as "text; files 1, 2, 3".
  • If there is unsourced statement on a page, add the 'Citation Needed' tag by typing "{{Cite|statement}}". When the source is found, the tag can be removed and the appropriate citation can be added. If a source is not found within two weeks, the statement should be removed.

  • For crew statements,
    • Do not use nicknames to refer to crew members.
    • Check the image guide on how to add screenshots of crew statements to the wiki.
    • Statements in Category:Crew Statements Disregarded by the Wiki are generally not allowed to be cited on articles, but are permissible if they are cited as part of a note or trivia.
  • For audio commentary, link to the episode when the direct link to the track is unavailable.
  • End credit, pop-up trivia and caption citations should be immediately followed by a citation for the corresponding episode/movie in which it was shown. If the source is exclusively in a DVD, the DVD should be cited in lieu of the episode/movie.
  • If a script or script outline is cited, both the script/outline and the episode should be cited as above if the information is present in the episode. If the information is only present in the script/outline, the episode need not be cited.
  • If a secondary source comes from an individual who is not a crew member, the reference tag should similarly be their initials, or initials based on their online handle. However, it should listed under other, rather than crew statements.
    • If a secondary source echoes the word of a crew member, the statement's reference tag should be the latter's initials, even if the former is also a crew member.
