Ben 10 is the fifth iteration of the Ben 10 franchise. It serves as a reboot to the television series and is loosely based upon the original series as well as serving as a parallel timeline.

Summary

Building on the highly successful franchise about kid hero Ben Tennyson, Ben 10 introduces a re-imagined Ben, his cousin Gwen, and Grandpa Max are normal, as they travel the country during summer vacation. When Ben finds the Omnitrix, a mysterious watch that transforms him into 10 different friendly aliens, a world of extraterrestrial superpowers opens up to him. Crossovers

Mighty Magiswords

Ben 10, along with other Cartoon Network shows, had a collaboration with Mighty Magiswords in the app "MagiMobile". It had Magiswords based on some of Ben's aliens for players to collect, including Heatblast, Four Arms, Cannonbolt, Upgrade, and Wildvine.

Villainous

A Villainous short released on the Brazilian Cartoon Network YouTube channel features Flug analyzing Vilgax while Dementia tries using his advice on Black Hat. The short ends with Flug creating his own Omnitrix for Vilgax, who attempts to transform into Black Hat before being eaten by the form. It uses clips from Omni-Tricked: Part 3, Omni-Tricked: Part 4, Out to Launch, Animorphosis, The 11th Alien: Part 1, and The 11th Alien: Part 2.

OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes!

An episode of OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes! is a crossover event which premiered on October 8, 2018. Crossover Nexus featured Ben Tennyson, Raven from Teen Titans Go!, Garnet from Steven Universe and K.O. from OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes! as they band together to escape the destroyed CN City and stop Strike.

Video Game

A video game based on the series was released worldwide on November 10, 2017 (for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One). It was developed by Outright Games and distributed by Bandai Namco in the EMEA. In the game, players discover aliens and use them to help Ben defeat three of his greatest enemies: Zombozo, Queen Bee, and the Weather Heads.

On March 3, 2020, it was announced that another Ben 10 video game was in the works. It was revealed to be Ben 10: Power Trip and was released on October 9 2020.

Trivia

  • Unlike previous iterations of Ben 10:
    • This series' episodes have a run-time of 11 minutes each. All previous Ben 10 iterations had episodes with run-times of 22 minutes each. This decision was done by Cartoon Network so they can mix and match episodes. It also works better for comedy.[DR 1]
      • Episodes which are 22 minutes in production are broken into two segments.
      • However, Season 5 will consist of 4-part movie events instead of the normal 11-minute episodes.[DR 2][DR 3]
    • The look of the Omnitrix changes in every new season.
      • The out-of-universe reasons for the Omnitrix having a new appearance every season are to repurpose unused designs from pre-production, to differentiate one season from another, as well as for marketing purposes.[DR 4]
    • Ben is only able to have 10 aliens at a time.
      • The one time this rule was not kept (during the events of Omni-Tricked when Ben unlocked Gax), the Omnitrix began to glitch and freak out. Starting with Innervasion Part 5: High Override, aliens are now added and removed from rotation.
      • The crew has been been moving through the aliens they felt were at Ben's core because they are his favorite go to characters across the life of the entire show.[DR 5]
      • The addition and removal of certain aliens is also based on what type of stories they want to tell in the new season, then which aliens would work best with those stories and which would not.[DR 6]
      • When asked why Four Arms, Humungousaur and Rath, three aliens with enhanced strength as a main ability, are all in Ben's roster starting with Season 3, Duncan Rouleau stated that their working philosophy isn't about the perfect well-rounded team as much as working with what you got. Until Ben has mastery over the Omnitrix, he'll get all sorts of odd, sometimes lopsided, lineups.[DR 7]
      • The crew like to keep the title of 10 being consistent.[DR 8]
  • When asked to describe Season 5 in one word, Duncan Rouleau said "celestial".[DR 9]
    • Season 5 will also have guest stars as voice actors.[DR 10]
  • Alien X,[DR 11] Bloxx, and The Worst[DR 12] have been considered to appear in future seasons of the reboot.
  • This is the second Cartoon Network reboot series after The Powerpuff Girls (2016).
  • Duncan Rouleau has occasionally brought up the possibility of a new iteration of Ben 10 starting with some new angle,[DR 24] saying that there is always a chance it could happen.[DR 25] They are developing many options; the changing fields of platforms from cable to streaming, the consolidation of Warner Bros. franchises, and a "thousand other factors" will determine where, how and when Ben’s next iteration will finally settle.[DR 26] There may be an older Ben show at some point, but no time soon.[DR 27]
