Early Development applies to every decision, characters and aliens that were made concerning a sequel series named Ben 10: Evolutions[DM 1] or Ben 10: Ultimatrix[ES 1] before Ben 10: Ultimate Alien started.
History[]
The series was initially greenlit for twenty episodes,[ES 2] and was in production as early as September 26, 2008.[DM 2] Man of Action came up with the title for Ultimate Alien.[AC 1]
Conceptualizations[]
Nanomech[]
Despite debuting in Ben 10: Alien Swarm, Nanomech was considered a new alien. Concept art for Nanomech neglected to include his wings and the majority of his circuitry, though he did have lines on his neck and stomach.
Ultimate Humungousaur[]
Ultimate Humungousaur at one point had spikes running down his neck.
Ultimate Swampfire[]
Ultimate Swampfire was designed by Steven Choi.[SC 1] His design changed drastically, at one point having a flaming head similar to Heatblast.
Water Hazard[]
Water Hazard was designed by Steven Choi.[DJW 1] His concept art described him as a "sea crab", and he lacked his hood.
Terraspin[]
Terraspin, along with the other aliens native to the Andromeda Galaxy, was designed by either Steven Choi or Chap Yaep.[DJW 2] He went through many name changes during development, but the early names were all shut down by the writer's legal team. Kathleen David, Peter David's wife, eventually came up with his final name.[PAD 1]
NRG[]
NRG was designed by Steven Choi.[SC 2]
Armodrillo[]
Armodrillo was designed by either Steven Choi or Chap Yaep.[DJW 2] He originally had a visibly scuffed body, his toes made up the entirety of his feet, and a body was visible underneath his armor.
Ampfibian[]
Ampfibian was designed by either Steven Choi or Chap Yaep.[DJW 2] His early design retained his final build, but he had different patterns on his body and was colored lavender and grey. He was named by Len Wein.[MW 1]
Ultimate Echo Echo[]
Ultimate Echo Echo was designed by Steven Choi, a process which he found to be difficult.[SC 3]
Theme Song[]
After the name of the series was finalized to Ultimate Alien, work began on the show's opening theme song, which had some notable differences from what was ultimately used.
