Dr. Aloysius James Animo[note 1] is a mad scientist obsessed with genetic experiments on animals. He is Dr. Animo's future self as of Omniverse.[note 2][note 3]
Appearance[]
Animo has his head held in a dome and attached to the body of an albino gorilla with white fur, purple skin, giant claws on his feet. Animo's brain is exposed in a smaller dome, and he has red eyes (one of which is mechanical). He retains his Prime Timeline counterpart's pale green skin and white hair. When detached from his body, Animo's head has metallic legs attached to the bottom of the dome. He has two antennae poking out from the bigger dome. He has three bolts on each hand and a backbone-type tube on his back.
Personality[]
Animo's personality hasn't changed much over the years, as he is just as egomaniacal as his younger self. He doesn't talk to stuffed animals as he did in the past.[3]
Animo has a tendency to incessantly argue with his past self, even blaming him for the circumstances that reduced him to being a head in a jar. Furthermore, the trauma of losing his body has affected him somewhat.[3]
Overall, Animo is still considered a power-hungry madman. However, he does seem to possess some semblance of humanity, as when he learned of Max's retirement, he seemed genuinely saddened and remarked that it "won't be the same without [him]", though this is questionable, as later, upon being freed by Subdora, he didn't hesitate to attack him in an attempt to make his retirement "permanent".[4]
History[]
Background[]
At some point, Animo's body was destroyed, leaving only his head intact.
Omniverse[]
In The End of an Era, Animo broke into Ben 10,000's tower and used his Chronoporter to travel back in time.
In Animo Crackers, Animo met the present Animo and worked with him to defeat Ben. He revealed that the loss of his original body had been a traumatic experience, and it was due to his past self's mistake. He told his past self that they had to get the A.R.C. Project, so they could create an army of mutants together. However, they were defeated by Gutrot, after Animo accidentally told him how to use his powers. He was recaptured after being given memory loss and taken back to the future by Spanner.
After being brought back by Spanner, Animo was escorted to Plumber Headquarters. When he heard Max was retiring, Animo remarked that the place wouldn't be the same without him. Later, Subdora opened his cell door as a distraction, and he attacked Max. After a short battle, Max managed to remove Animo's jar from his gorilla body. Animo lamented that he needs to reinforce his neck bolts and was once again put back to his cell.
Powers and Abilities[]
Animo's gorilla body grants him enhanced strength. He is strong enough to cause chunks of the ground to fly off by smashing it.[3]
Animo can jump high in the air.[3]
Animo can crawl on walls and ceilings.[4]
Equipment[]
Animo's head is surrounded by a protective dome, making him immune to Gutrot's gas attacks if the vent on his chest is closed.[3]
Animo's Transmogrifier can send out a pulse to instantly mutate animals in his vicinity, as shown with the copy he provided his past self.[3]
Animo has several canisters on each arm, storing animals in stasis, which can be ejected for use, mutating the animals in the process.[4]
Animo owns a Holo-Viewer.[3]
Weaknesses[]
Animo is vulnerable to electricity, as shown when he was shocked by Ken using the blasters of his Chrono Spanner suit.[3]
Animo's head can be separated from his body if it is not reinforced properly. This can leave him very vulnerable and a lot easier to trap.[4]
Though the dome surrounding his head affords him some protection, it is not indestructible and will crack with enough force. Damaging the dome will make him susceptible to gas attacks.[3]
Like his past self, Animo's arrogance and over-confidence still continues to be his downfall. His periodic bouts of forgetfulness can make him overlook certain details.[3]
Appearances[]
Omniverse[]
Season 5[]
- Animo Crackers (first reappearance)
Season 8[]
Trivia[]
- Unlike his Original Series Future Timeline counterpart, it is implied that this version of Dr. Animo cannot intentionally detach his head from his body. Instead, his head comes off if it is not reinforced properly.[4]
- Dr. Animo is similar to Ultra Humanite from the DC Universe as they are both evil scientists with the bodies of albino gorillas.
Notes[]
- ↑ Dr. Animo's middle name, James, was first added to the wiki on the Prime Timeline Animo's page on January 31, 2010 by a user named RaphBlade7. It was never mentioned in any official media or merchandise until the Omniverse episode It Was Them, which canonized it.[BTP 1]
- ↑ The Omniverse crew brought back the Ben 10,000 from the Original Series instead of working on a new one like in Ultimate Alien.[DJW 4][DJW 5][DJW 6][DJW 7][DJW 8][DJW 9][DJW 10][DJW 11]
- He is from further in the future, after having learnt the lessons from his encounter with his 10 year old self[DJW 11] and lightened up.[DJW 12]
- This is due to:
- The executives' push for having everything more like the Original Series, which was the most successful of the franchise.[DJW 9]
- The crew's preference of the original Ben 10,000[DJW 8] over the Ultimate Alien portrayal.[DJW 10][DJW 13]
- Derrick J. Wyatt made several further statements to corroborate this, expanding on what was known from the Original Series, such as the backstories for the Biomnitrix and Kevin Levin invoking the plotlines of Ben 10,000[DJW 12] and Ken 10[DJW 14] respectively, the defining tragedy in Ben 10,000's life having now occurred at the age of 20,[DJW 15] "shifted" from the original age of 15,[pop-up 1][5] etc.
- The writing of the show also explicitly called this out, such as when Ben identified the future Dr. Animo in Animo Crackers as the same person who he encountered in Ben 10,000,[3] and other efforts were made throughout the last few seasons to align the story with the original future timeline, in terms of character designs, set designs and plot lines.
- ↑ Ben 10,000 is stated to be Ben Prime's true future self.[DJW 7][DJW 16]
- This is evidenced in-show in Omniverse by the fact that both the Ben 10,000[6][4] and the future Dr. Animo[3] recalled characters and events from the present day. Chrono-Spanner also frequently visits present day with effects of his actions manifest in his present.[7] This would not be possible if these characters belonged to an alternate timeline.
- It was pointed out by fans that this created a plot hole with the Original Series, as Ben 10,000 was from an alternate timeline[8][9][pop-up 2][10] in which he never travelled to the future when he was 10, and consequently did not give Max a cake on his 60th birthday, while Ben Prime did.[5] Thus, Ben 10,000 did not recall the events of the episode from his younger self's perspective.[9][DM 1][DM 2][DM 3]
- Derrick responded to the matter by saying: "Your 'plot holes' are irrelevant. Time isn't completely fixed, it's shifting. Events can be subtly altered. But Ben 10,000 is the future for the Ben Prime timeline."[DJW 7]
- He further explained that future is always in flux,[DJW 17] and is constantly affected by current events, especially by the meddling of the present by time-travellers.[DJW 16] This was also showcased in Ben 10,000. Thus, Ben 10,000, ie, Ben's current true future will always be changing, depending on the future writers of the show.
